Hey guys - thinking to add an UpTop Overland mid-height truss to my diamondback bed cover for things like rotopax and shovels … you know, stuff that I need to get to my office in downtown Houston.

Has anyone done this? If so, how does it limit how far the DB can open up? Rear visibility? Drag/ wind noise/ MPG?

thanks !

I had that setup on my 2022 Tundra Crewmax 6.5’ bed. I removed the rack before trading that truck in. I was able to retrofit it to my Retrax cover on my 2025 Tacoma Trailhunter 6’ bed with different adapters that mount in the tonneau cover rail slots.

I could open each part of the Diamondback cover independently, but the rails would touch a little if both lids were opened. Might be a different experience with a shorter bed.

I still have the 8 mounting brackets that attach to the cleats, if you’re interested. Might save you a little on the overall cost of the rack.

That actually looks great. I am worried because there’s a thread that shows these racks from uptop rusting. What’s your experience with rust?

No rust on the rack, but they did have a bad batch of hardware that rusted. It was replaced under warranty.

Interesting - I wonder if it was just a few bad batches at their fab shop

No clue, but they do honor the warranty on their products. Lead times are a little excessive in my opinion. Not sure what their workforce/material supply are like, but I thought they should be able to get product out within two weeks, instead of four to six weeks. For what these accessories cost from the vendors that manufacture and sell them, the lead times could be improved.

Do you think it will obstruct the rear facing rearview camera

I adapted a previous gen Chassis Unlimited Thorax 12" bedrack to my Diamondback.

Yes, my biggest gripe was that it was in the perfect spot to block my camera view. Do not get a 12" rack unless you specifically want to put a box style RTT on and keep it below roofline. EX https://gofsr.com/products/kali-rooftop-tent
With the 12" rack, I was unable to use the rack for basic stuff like hauling a piece of lumber or paddleboards. The panels will each still open but not at the same time. So if you throw a RTT up there you can not open them at all. Then, when you get a sliding bed tray to get your gear out you will find most sit about 3-5" above bed and you will not be able to fit a cooler in your bed. I removed this whole system and went to a topper. It was expensive but would have been cheaper to do right the first time.
