Was hunting Gen 2 Raptor's, but ......

the G4 Tacoma has entered the chat.

yes, completely different trucks, but have some very similar attributes, appeal and pricing.

long story short, I recently went off the deep end and decided to sell my prized possession in my minty gen 1 Audi R8 with gated manual transmision and get back into the dirt life.
Figured I could get one of the baddest side by sides out there right now and a used Raptor to pull it with for what I could get for the Audi.
So I took the plunge and dropped a pretty penny on a brand new Maverick R Max xRS and put the R8 on BringaTrailer.com ...luckily the R8 did very well and now it is on to the truck portion of the package deal.

I've always loved the Raptors, especially the looks of the gen 2, so I started looking and doing a deep dive on these trucks for the last month or so, but then I don't know even how it happened, the Tacoma popped up on my radar....and with the discounts on the new ones, it is very tempting

Both are fully capable of towing the 3800 lbs (side by side and trailer)
both are two of the best looking trucks out there
both are fully capable off road trucks.

It is either a used 2019-2020 Raptor or brand new TRD Off Road that I am torn on at the moment.

I have a friend who is an inventory manager that can get me a pretty good discount at Toyota who I am going to go see tomorrow...have a feeling she is gonna talk me into the most logical decision and getting the new Taco.

I was in the same boat, ended up getting the Tacoma because I really wanted the manual transmission! Zero regrets, it's my favorite vehicle I've ever had.

I towed a big ol’ 18 foot trailer full of crap this weekend with a bed full of gear with no issues!

I also chose the TRD Pro over Raptor.

My reasoning:

Raptor Pros: it is significantly more powerful, has electronically adjustable suspension, front locker, a usable back seat, lower price.

TRD Pro: looks leagues better inside and out (subjective), built to a noticeably higher standard (everything on the Ford feels cheap imo), will most likely have better long term reliability, better fuel economy, better resale value.

I can see why some would choose the Raptor > TRD Pro but for me the TRD Pro was the obvious choice.

Sorry for the confusion, but I was talking about the big dog F-150 Raptor, the Gen 2 specifically.

I think you are talking about the Ranger Raptor

I think the 4 Gen Tacos are a pretty solid truck....especially with all the recalls of other trucks, lately...including Ford, yesterday, with a recall of almost half a million trucks because the gas tanks can fall off....WHAT?? (Sounds like some bean-counter convinced someone to replace steel brackets with plastic to save $1 !!!)

I bought the Tacoma because I realized if I bought anything else I would have to constantly explain why I picked something else over the Tacoma....

Nobody ever asks why you bought a Tacoma.

Gen3 yeah MT for sure! Gear hunting sob auto! After I test drove a gen4 8 speed auto I felt there is no benefit other than anti theft
