Hi All,

I know there have been a few posts of people asking how to wire in their light bars into the high beams so the light bar can only come on when the high beams are on. I know for most older vehicles there is a dedicated high beam trigger wire that is easy to tap into, but that is not the case for the 2024 Tacoma. I have been working with the dealership and electrical engineers and without just paying the dealership to do it, I can't figure it out. Currently I know there are four wires going into the headlight assembly, 1 is running 14V, 2 is 9V, and 3 and 4 are both grounds. Nothing changes when the high beams are on so it's not as easy as hoped. Has anyone else cracked this problem yet?

And before anyone says, yes I am religious on the high beam switch and I only plan to use the light bar on backroads where I'll likely not see another car. I just want to make it quick and easy to turn off both my brights and the light bar with one switch.

This is a 2024 TRD Sport without any auxiliary buttons/harnesses installed.

Thanks in advance,

Cameron

Probably going to end up needing to use some sort of canbus decoder. The semi conductor power ECU in the right side relay box now tells the headlight directly whether to run DRL, low beam, or high beam. There is no high beam wire as you have found. You essentially need to tap into the canbus system with a decoder that can recognize high beam messages and output a signal to your accessories accordingly.

That sucks because I just purchased a hidden/grille light bar mounting kit for my truck and wanted to tie it into high beams as well. Didn't realize they went to this extent of computerization on this platform for something so basic as headlights. It's totally unnecessary to do it this way.

Not necessarily related per se, but I was originally thinking of maybe tying in to the auto high beam switch.

Regardless, here is a technical document describing how the auto high beam system works. May be helpful for others down the road.

Interesting to note that it actively uses the camera system (and only at certain speeds), so this may be more difficult than one would think.

There has to be some type of signal for when the stalk is in the high beam position.

Looks like the canm8 or Cannect IDR8 or IDR8-R will likely be the easiest way to accomplish what we’re wanting.

EXACTLY what I want to do. There is an older thread about this: https://www.tacoma4g.com/forum/thre...h-beam-lever-in-addition-to-high-beams.13667/
