Hey there, just wanted to share the new style CV on the TRD Off Road. Pretty weak C clip holding everything in. Don’t accidentally pull it out 🫣. Lol. Boot is currently not available.

It is not a new design and has nothing to do with a Toyota issue. All inner CV joints on all cars are of a tripod or tulip style. They all come apart the same way, if you pull on an inner CV joint the wrong way the boot could tear and the joint will come apart.

All professional mechanics know that.

My apologies “new to me”. I must have only seen the other style you referred to. The boot did not tear, the C-clip came off and made a small puncture from the inside. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Not blaming Toyota, it was my fault.

Why did you remove it?
I was changing my suspension and my support for the CV, brakes, etc. let loose. The weight and angle must have been just right to pop out that c-clip. Couldn’t reassemble without removing the boot.

The axle and all associated parts are covered by your warranty, unless Toyota denied you service.

Edit: Oh, didn't refresh the page, makes sense now 👍
