So I was running a Stillen cold-air since early Summer(very similar to the Sxth Element), and just started getting error codes every other day. Had at the dealership a few times, and unfortunately, the intake was the issue. I'm not sure what changed since I went a few months with no lights, but I confirmed myself as well that the light seems to come back with the Stillen, but won't come back with stock box back on.

Anyway, I do miss the extra turbo noises from when I had the Stillen on, so looking into possibly going with the TRD one. Does anyone have experience with this? I am coming up with very little information on it. Is it just a fancy red and black box with a flat filter and no change to noise, or is it similar to my Stillen/Sxth Element with a cone filter and more noise?

For reference, it is part # PTR03-35090

Congratulations! You found out that the MAF sensor doesn't like these aftermarket parts that don't take into account the parameters that the ECU is programmed to.

The TRD airbox will throw a CEL for non PRO/TH models. OTT posted about this, and a tune will get around it.

So I am curious what Toyota would do to get around that being that they quoted me that part number for my VIN which is a non-PRO.

Parts counter or online purchase?
If online, they would point you to the checkbox you select, verifying you take responsibility for parts compatibility. Unsure how the parts counter would handle it.

It was parts counter and I am friends with the parts manager over there(I work at a different brands parts department). I gave him the VIN to my truck and he gave me part number for the TRD part for my truck.

Sweet, you know better than anyone how to work the system to get a discount code when you return it, and then you can get something that works at a nice price, like an ARB bumper at 25% off.
