It wasn't a problem for me to get the OEM tie downs off, although they are tight. Those tie downs secure our trucks during transport, so they need to be well attached. I used my 1/2" drive torque wrench to put the new ones on with 75 ft-lbs of torque with no problem.

My front tow hooks came from: https://autoparts.elmhursttoyota.com The PN is: PT974-35250 and the price is $123.90. They don't quote shipping though until you add ALL of your info, so you need to check. They are pretty heavy, so probably not cheap, but I never found my receipt.

You've got to love how when our vehicle break the dealers drive another truck to see if it is normal. Fingers crossed because maybe they are all F'd and we don't have to fix this one. Oh what a feeling!

It sucks to have this failure, but what really sucks is no loaner. More than one 4th gen has died suddenly but most people in that situation get something to drive. You might want to contact Toyota to see if your are owed a loaner and you just happen to have a really lame dealer.

Thanks for the heads up. You would think that a hybrid motor failure would be rare, or at least I am hoping it is.

I have tested that, and the fob has to be in range to do that. You can open it with the buttons when the truck is locked if the fob is near enough.
