@jeb2930 Good plan - that is how I like to roll too. Start out nice and give them the chance to do the right thing, then ramp it up as necessary. We paid good money for these trucks and it is not a favor for them to make it right. It is their obligation. I try to save the shouting and bad...
@-Strike- I don't know if have ever driven a 3rd gen Taco but they often seemed to often be in too high of a gear, which made them sluggish, even with the V6. I am guessing that Toyota worked hard to find a balance between lugging and wasting gas in lower gears with this powertrain.
They have...
Yep - definitely sounds like the transmission to me. All 4th gens use the same engine and transmission so we are all at risk here from what I can tell.
Which factory the trucks come from is based on the trim. All of the hybrids and premium models are 3TY, no matter where you live. The assembly point doesn't make any difference on transmission issues anyway, since the transmissions are built in Japan by Aisin.
I don't remember what trim you have. If it has leaf springs it could be axle wrap, which Toyota trucks are famous for, but I don't think that could happen with coils.
It could also be cause by regen braking but I have never been able to feel any transition between that and the normal braking system. Toyota handles that so well after all their hybrid experience that you seldom know exactly what it is doing.
How new is your TH?
The engine in my truck shuts off when you are stopping a lot of the time and restarts when it needs to. When I first got my truck I could feel a slight vibration when it did that, but now after a few hundred miles that seems to have gone away. If I turned off the fake...
That's unfortunate. As a long time Toyota owner I never thought I would need a lemon law, but there have been cases with 4th gens where I think I might go that route.
I love my truck though and I would probably just wait until they fix whatever, at least if they provide a loaner truck.
That sucks. Guanajuato seems to specialize in breaking evaporator boxes, which was supposed to have been fixed months ago. I had better check my July 3TY truck more closely for that. Maybe Toyota should add that to the PDI.
A known problem and a known fix, so good luck!
I totally get that, but you don't have a slight problem - your truck shifts like shit. A defective drivetrain is something that has to be fixed, no matter how much your dealer sucks.
Do you have any other dealers near you that might be better? I have a dealer that I totally trust but I have...
Damn! That sucks.
No, mine does nothing like that. It drives and shifts smooth as silk at any speed. My truck is still new and it might change, but no way will I pay the cost of a 4th gen and put up with that kind of crap.
I understand why you don't want the dealer screwing with your new...
@TurboTruck! That video makes this problem a lot clearer for me. It can be pretty hard to understand from just a description in a post. If it jerks enough to show up in a video it must be bad enough for even a dealer tech to see, and no way is that normal.
Nothing like that in my truck yet...
Yep - down to one vehicle myself and it sucks. and this is just for one week. It's anyone's guess how long that strike will go on and how bad things get backed up. Too bad you can't work a remote deal, but I have never found most dealers to be very interested in doing that. Some day.
Wow - you are on a roll, just like I have been with things other than my truck. I think changing your expectations to maybe getting a 2025 next Spring gives you a lot more options.
At this point it is really hard to say what will happen with the dock workers, although there are signs that they...
You could be right and I can't check my truck because it isn't available right now. I was basing that on what someone reported months ago when his transmission was replaced. I asked him why change the radiator and he said it was because of the transmission fluid cooler. I didn't realize Tacomas...
4Th gens have transmission coolers. The transmission fluid circulates through a section of the radiator at the bottom to keep it cool when the truck is working hard. It is a nice feature because it is meant to extend the life of your transmission. But that means that any shavings that are...
Yeah - good body work is an art and not a skill many mechanics have. I don't know if replacing the radiator would require doing anything to painted body work, but then you know more about that than I do.
I have said that I think you should take your truck to your dealer, but I am starting to...
