OK - more bad news. I didn't know that there weren't any hybrids included in the TSB and there have been multiple transmission failures in Pros, one at 342 freaking miles. My Pro is fine but it is almost new, so I am starting to wonder when it might fail.
I am thinking that Toyota needs to be...
Good points and although this worries a lot of owners, I agree that Toyota will take care of us in the long run.
Here is something that has not been discussed a lot. In one transmission replacement the dealer also replaced the radiator. Their service manager said that if debris is in the...
@tacorancher is your truck in the VIN range for the TSB? If it isn't, there are trucks not covered by the TSB with transmission issues. That would be bad news for owners and for Toyota.
From your recent descriptions it sounds to me like it might your truck might be due some attention from your dealer at this point, even without the codes. The TSB and its codes are a help for when a transmission goes out, but it is not normal for a 4th gen to shift like yours does and I think...
@Gfenza89 Maybe you could park it at your dealer and offer customers a free test drive to see how nice the 4th gen is.
I bet they would want to fix your truck then!
@TX-BluStreak Yeah - I have thought about that too. I think my Terra Pro would definitely look better from the back if those fender areas were black. I think Toyota had a hard time finding a place to stop that black fender section, so they just punted.
Mine is getting PPF right now and they are...
@bresna I write software that controls machinery and I seriously doubt that this is a software issue. It sounds a lot more like shift solenoids not working correctly, which is what has caused the other transmission failures.
@RXvedub is right - don't mention what you know, just ask that a tech...
I would be concerned if I were you. My truck is just a few weeks old but it has never once shifted strangely or hesitated to downshift or shuddered. Is your truck in one of the VIN ranges?
@RXvedub Cool - input from someone with some experience! Yes the TSB lists a series of VIN numbers of affected trucks, and then lists codes for solenoid failures that must be present for the TSB to apply.
But I have been wondering about the same thing. Even if you don't have the stored codes...
Thanks for the heads up @-Strike-. I wonder what the torque setting for those is? If we knew we could check that before they might come loose on their own. I guess the first move is to make sure they are not just finger tight. Which plant was your Taco built in?
@Gfenza89 It sounds like you are on your way to getting some codes. It seems odd that you don't have any yet with those shifting problems. You are in the strange place of waiting for it to get bad enough to get a new transmission and it sounds like you are getting close. Good luck.
@Gurvy522 Yeah - that is probably what I saw from Toyota and I thought those included an oil change. Those 5k "services" are total bs except for the tire rotation.
But I do have a sticker inside my windshield that I think says next oil change @ 5k miles, but maybe it was just the next service...
I looked in the manual and I can find what oil to use, but not any intervals yet. I also saw some Toyota literature that came with my truck that said it had free service every 5k miles or two years, whichever comes first.
I will look more closely, but when I saw that I thought - wait, what? I...
Do the 10k mile oil change intervals apply only to non-hybrids? My hybrid calls for oil changes every 5k miles according to my dealer. From reading on this forum I expected the intervals to be 10k.
I would push Toyota to install the hinge part that appears to be missing. They forgot to put sunroofs in some Trailhunters, even though they showed on the build sheet, so they probably just forgot to give you all the parts. First year builds of 4th gens seem to be very haphazard.
Congrats @evlfred - a long wait but I think it will be worth it.
My truck coming into the country on the east coast was just under 7 weeks after build date to my dealer. Your truck might be coming mostly by rail and I would think that would make it shorter.
Good luck!
