  1. Wide VS Narrow Tires (Pizza Cutters to Wide)

Why anyone would argue bike stuff with you after you posted a Sheldon Brown link is beyond me lol og cycle people know he is the source of truth for all things bicycle... But yeah I mean the thing is even going down to 235/85/17 or something from a 275 it's maybe a 1.5" tread width difference...
  2. Drove Up To Santiago Peak

Thank you! I'm envious of SoCal and their truck trails/OHV parks too :cwl: We live up North in the Bay Area. We're going to try to move to SoCal next year though. ...Which made me a little nervous doing this offroading since if I broke the truck we were 450 miles from home LOL
  3. Wide VS Narrow Tires (Pizza Cutters to Wide)

I just want to drop a little bit of data in https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=296&fbclid=IwAR28NopDGeK6jQN1u6DtQAXgIvFQ2dyLtTrfy9UJbBq4z2aD5Ff64Sswn7M Wider tires have a harder job to do than skinny tires because they have to move more water out of the way of their...
  4. Your new truck probably needs an alignment

Ideally, everyone's truck should be pretty much zero in the rear for every measurement and then zero up front for camber and toe. Variation of rear specs on solid axle setups is just the assembly line guys torquing one side more than the other or something. Small differences in new bushings and...
  5. Your new truck probably needs an alignment

After looking at the charts I've seen here on 4G forums I think people should be happy if they leave the shop without an insane amount of cross toe LOL But yeah there's more to it than zero toe but expecting anything but a performance or tuner shop to get it right it asking a lot. Dynamic...
  6. Drove Up To Santiago Peak

1000% impossible if its muddy at all You'd just slide off the mountain 😂 Lots of sections were impassable by two vehicles at the same time so even in good conditions it got complicated. Road up to the peak on the right just for a sense of the cliff lol You are not recovering your truck if...
  7. Wide VS Narrow Tires (Pizza Cutters to Wide)

This is actually true and why bicycle tires don't need tread at all to be safe in the wet. The PSI of the contact patch surface area is so high the water is squished away. Some small motorcycles/scooters mostly have tread for looks, once you get to larger street bikes the tread actually plays a...
  8. Wide VS Narrow Tires (Pizza Cutters to Wide)

Wider tires always perform worse in the wet. You need to siphon water away from the tire as fastly as possible, so what happens when you increase surface area of the tire.. You do have more dry lateral grip but we're talking about a pickup truck here not a sports cars so nobody should be...
  9. Wide VS Narrow Tires (Pizza Cutters to Wide)

This is not true. Wider tires require more tread depth to move the water from the center of the tire, off the shoulder of the tire. Skinnier tires hydroplane less easily and don't require as much siping to move water from the center of the tread. If you are running out of grip on a 10" wide...
  10. Random 2024 Tacoma 4th Gen Photos of the Day - Post Yours! 📸 🤳

I got pinstripes everywhere from the trails, a few through the clear, it is what it is. I have the title so I can do what I want with it :cwl: There's even more than these two, there's a huge one through the clear coat down the passenger bedside
  11. Random 2024 Tacoma 4th Gen Photos of the Day - Post Yours! 📸 🤳

I noticed the color difference as well on my FIL Underground Camry. I bet one of the trucks either yours or the other is a Baja plant truck and the other is Guanajuato. My Underground truck was made in Guanajuato, I have zero paint complaints.
  12. A Good Take on Lifting

All I'm gonna say to the lift crowd is just drive the damn thing, Toyota knows what they're doing. You will back off an obstacle before the truck will get stuck unless you really don't care about making it home :like:
  13. A Good Take on Lifting

These trucks are so capable at stock ride height. You really don't need to lift them lol Just get full skids and maybe sliders and hit the dirt. If you get skids and decent tire AND pick your line offroad and you still run out of clearance you should probably not be sending your daily driver...
  14. Rough transmission shifts

Something it does do that's funny is that it'll come to a stop in 2nd but if you do a California stop, it'll take off in 2nd too which is probably too low of a gear for the situation and then rely on the torque converter a lot. The next shift is jerky because the driver added throttle because...
  15. Water depth for hybrids

Up to the rear doors, unless you want to see how well the hybrid battery cooling fan moves water :cwl:
  16. Wide VS Narrow Tires (Pizza Cutters to Wide)

Skinny tire is the way. I'm going from 265/70/17 to 255/75/17, true 32 and slightly more narrow. Once these BFGs are more cooked :sunglasses: Still not that skinny to be honest. Tread width is still 10" which is pretty wide.
  17. Rough transmission shifts

Why not go to a dealer and ask to drive their demo truck and see if it feels any different. 4G has a lot of torque, I think expecting it to shift as smoothly as the 1GR setup is probably not reasonable.
  18. Your new truck probably needs an alignment

Not like the rear is adjustable without an aftermarket panhard bar anyways. The best any alignment shop can do is zero your front toe out. Why the multi link guys have so much rear toe factory is uhhh a little weird... But maybe it's just a Toyota 4 link thing, from 4Runner forum: 4 link is...
  19. Rough transmission shifts

Just go buy a used X7 (costs the same as a Tacoma) You can tow your toys around and complain when the ZF8 occasionally does a weird shift But at least you'll be comfortable over bridge expansion joints... :cwl:
  20. Rough transmission shifts

Feels like a beefy truck transmission to me. I understand the MSRP gets wild on these but it's still a truck. The guys complaining about the ride quality of the 4 link models have clearly never owned a truck before LOL cause it's gonna ride like a truck even if it's 4 link or not. It's never...
