Bed Cap availability?

My ARE V Series truck cap arrived a couple of weeks ago. I added the Front Runner cap rack instead of ordering the Yakima racks with the cap. I saved about $400 by getting my own cap rack, and I can upgrade to a full rack/basket later If I want.

This looks shaaaaarp. How are you liking the cap?

I’ve had a few ARE caps in the past. The build quality is the same, but the fit and finish has gotten worse over the years. I’m satisfied with it though. I considered a Smart Cap or the OVS cap, but I like the impact resistance that the fiberglass caps offer compared to the metal ones.

I had the Smartcap for a week and had problems with it. Still deciding which route to go now. Really liking your ARE cap though.

Leaking just a few days after install. It could’ve been an install thing at the dealer. Though it shouldn’t have leaked that easy in my opinion. It was just easier to just send it back at that point. Smartcap was great. Zero hassle.

Don’t let one bad experience deter you though. @Sagebrush has had ZERO problems with his. Along with a few others here on the forum.

I know from my 3rd gen, completely water and dust proofing a Tacoma bed is a pain. I'm torn between the smart cap for modularity or an ARE CX for aesthetics.

The ARE truck caps have declined in quality over the years. I had a V Series one on my previous 2024 Tacoma, and I was very disappointed in it. It leaked in a few areas where it was mounted, and the back door had unpainted brackets and hinges that were rusting shortly after receiving it. Some of the carpet head liner was either torn or just missing full coverage (exposed fiberglass where headliner should be). The installed price was around $3,200.00. I received a $350.00 refund due to not wanting to send it back to correct the problems, and after being warned that it could be returned in worse condition than originally received.

I placed my order in March for an OVS Expedition SS cap. I’m still waiting on delivery.

A recent call to the company said that they are waiting on tariff clarification and they expect an August time frame.
