Has anyone had a successful buyback due to paint issues? My blue crush limited hybrid max has 350 miles on it, never seen a dirt road and has so many paint chips everywhere. Hundreds of chips. I contacted the dealer but was curious.

Not sure if it matters or not, but what factory was yours built in? I also have a blue crush but sport trim. Haven't noticed any defects with the paint so far. Also, any updates with what happened with the buy back?

I’m constantly finding chips on my underground paint. It’s like I get a new one every day and it hasn’t been off-road(yet).

Sorry, I'm not trying to be rude but people like to throw the "claim lemon law" a lot without understanding what that means. It's not a law that protects against any automotive issue. Typically, you can't just claim it falls under the lemon law after 350 miles with no prior repairs. I don't know Oregon lemon law details but, generally speaking, there needs to be a reasonable number of repair attempts before the lemon law is even considered. And in some states, it also requires a "substantial defect" that impairs the vehicle's use or safety, which this is not.

This very well may be a manufacturing defect but it will be extremely difficult to prove it qualifies for the lemon law.

Good luck!

Not true at all!!!
Experienced it first hand & have 6 success stories along with probably 6 others in process.....

Surprised that Crispy Taco Lover decided not to shed some light on this matter cuz I know, he knows.....
I dont frequent this board much as I should...
Been a Ford Engine tech for 32 years, just bit of background, I know a few things....

I was probably the first to get a buyback successfully completed for just paint issues on a 24 tacoma.
Since then ive probably coached 12 others at this point with probably 6 buybacks complete & 6 more in process.....
SILVER is a huge issue right now, theyre laying it on VERY blotchy & stripey.....
Bedsides almost looks like candy.....

Tons of guys have reached out to me behind the scenes over at tacomaworld via pm, they all have my cell # & been helping them along the way...
black, silver, white, all bought back.

The paint is total shit on Toyotas.....

You get every dime back including refunds for mods....
Above link was my story but has become way more streamline since then as seems like its a huge issue....
The plants paint practices & procedures are going the wrong direction....

Paint quality is a sign of the times I'm afraid, the white paint on mine is pretty thin. ~3.8 mils thick NEW. My old 04 scion xb is ~4.5 and I've pretty aggressively polished that a few times over the years, so it was certainly thicker when new.

They keep going thinner to save costs and speed up production and it's not big enough of an issue to prevent people from buying the truck so there is ZERO incentive to change.

The trucks I see with the most paint complaints are white, silver and Underground. Some are perfect though, so it seems to vary from truck to truck.

Have you heard of any major underground issues?

Me personally involved or heard of a buyback, no....
But ive seen alot of them with lots of micro scratches from the factory...

As far as chipping, alot of the paintings result in soft & very thin paint...
If you feel its garbage, & youre willing to start over...
You have nothing to lose, go through the process & see what they do for you.

heres a thread that was temporary closed by the mods for bickering, shows a bunch of silver paint issue & buy backs approved.
Few guys private messaged me here, figured ide share now that I got it re opened.

You guys need to look at your silvers in natural lighting, not bright sun...
Alot of them are blotchy & zebra striped where the silver tint under the clear coat wasnt sprayed on evenly....
It's not suppose to look like it has a candy effect.....

Seen a bunch of the, just rolling the streets in San Diego & these guys have no clue.....

[trailhunger]

Whew thankfully my CSM TH only sees bright sun…

I think the paint shop in Guanajuato did a good job on my truck, dealer did a 3M PPP before it left the lot.

If you get that buyback wrap the new one in PPP day 1
