I recently purchased a new set of RCI rocksliders, but unfortunately, the flimsy box they came in caused the rocksliders to get scratched and scuffed at the ends. I sent them photos and they offered me a $75 discount and suggested I paint them. Now, I’m wondering if I’m being unreasonable for wanting more than $75 for the paint and the effort of painting them myself. I understand that they’re meant for off-road use and will eventually get scuffed up, But when you buy a new car you expect to be free of dents and scratches even though eventually it will have them?

I think that’s reasonable. I’d probably stay them with 3-4 coats in the damaged area.

RCI needs to up their packaging game. As I wrote in this forum a month or two back, my rear differential skid plate from them arrived with ZERO packaging aside from a plastic bag it was placed in. The plate had punched through the box in two locations. Fortunately it wasn’t damaged. I sent RCI photos of the box and got a polite reply…… but looks like they’ve yet to take packaging seriously.

Well, I also purchased a transmission skid plate at the same time I placed the order for my rocksliders, and unfortunately, it arrived damaged as well. I believe they need to enhance their quality control measures, as the quality of their products has declined significantly over the past few years.

The quality of their rock sliders and engine protection are excellent. I know. I have both.

The quality of their packaging is sub optimal. I suspect that they are leaning on the fact that it is actually almost impossible for their products to be damaged during shipping. These products are designed to protect vehicle parts and assemblies from major damage when your truck impacts big nasty rocks.

If your shipments have some damage to paint, and you consider that to be more important than the design and fabrication of their products, then you should certainly be returning them and buying some lesser designed and fabricated sliders and engine protection. That is your right.

Mine were delivered a month ago with similar damage. They were literally poking out of the box. That said, I was going to hit them with a couple coats of rustoleum bedliner spray anyway, so I just laid it on extra thick on the ends that were dinged up.

Yeah, I ended up doing the same thing. Did yours fit on your truck without any issues? Mine on the passenger side, one of the bolts didn’t align. I spent approximately two hours attempting to fit it, but unfortunately, it remained incompatible.

get a step bit. Drill the hole out takes about 30 seconds. First pull all the bolts except one that’s furthest away, let the end down that needs drilled out then drill. This keeps the threads in the frame from getting damaged.

Good advice @MT-Taco. I had the same issue and I made it work by doing the same thing, but without drilling out the misplaced hole. The quality on my RCI sliders is great otherwise, and I am surprised that they have never fixed this.

Yes thank you, that’s what I’ll end up doing. I’m just annoyed that I had to paint them and now drill a hole to make them fit properly. I’m not the only one who’s experienced this, as evidenced by the reviews. I’ll never buy from RCI again.

One of mine was off a fraction. No damage.
