Had my truck parked on a significant incline recently and noticed water slowly dripping from a couple doors. It hasn’t rained here in over a week.
pulled associated door panel plugs and drained approximately a pint of water from each door. I’m guessing the plugs are meant to prevent insects from nesting.

I opted to pull the remaining plugs to allow proper drainage.

Some vehicles come from the factory with the plugs installed, and subsequent service bulletins call for them to be removed. So there's a chance they weren't suppose to be there anyhow. Shouldn't have any issues without them.

Do you have a copy of that bulletin?

From what I saw on an internet search, the service bulletin (applying to all Toyotas) they want (1) of the (3) removed from each door.

Interesting. I'll have to see if I can find that, cause my OR has all 3 plugs on both sides.

I had water sloshing in the rear passenger door, I figured it was just a stopped up drain hole. I was surprised to see plugs in the drain holes. I saw somewhere online that toyota said to just pull the rear plugs on each door if you have water issues. I just pulled all of them, can't imagine why you wouldn't want the doors to drain.

I wish I knew more as to why they put them on, and only offer to remove one

Said to be dust and insect protection. Here in the NE freeze thaw and salted road corrosion would be a much higher priority I would think.

I live in Nova Scotia and we salt the crap out of everything here, I may put them back in for winter but I never had them on any other vehicle
