Factory tire blowout on i-35 in Oklahoma City

This was a bit scary. And tires are not covered under the vehicle warranty. I’ve had 3-sets of general grabber tires on my previous Tacos and never had an issue with this brand until yesterday. The donut spare was easy to download but its a 16 inch, not an 18 inch like the others. Its really sad TOYOTA WENT ON THE CHEAP for spare tires. No damage to the Taco or the rim.

I have to LOL at the “convenience spare“ written on the side of the spare. More like inconvenient.

The spare is not the same diameter as the factory tires?

I was just driving down the road and the first thing I noticed in the rear view mirror was black chunks flying up then a violent vibration as I quickly pulled over.

And yes, on many of the new 4th gen Tacos the spare is smaller than the factory tires. I knew this before i bought my Taco But I'm wishing I had a full size spare.

Factory tires are notorious for sucking. Sorry you had a dangerous blow out.

I am fixing the spare situation on my truck next week. I bought a Tundra wheel, and I am having DiscountTire install a 265/70/18 tire on it.

I have a Sport and got an original wheel off of eBay. I’ll have a 265/65/18 tire mounted on it.

I get rid of the factory installed junk right away, then I get OEM wheels for spares EBAY.

Dealer gave $400 for the OEM junk and installed the larger KO2's for me part of a deal.

That's not a " blowout" that's a tire failure due to sidewall damage. The smaller spare is only on certain trims. Its pretty standard for all manufacturers to do this.
