Which recovery points work best for yanking a truck out of mud. I know the frame mount recovery works best with a bridle so there is not lateral pull on the frame. And I believe the hitch mount is ideal for flat pulling since it’s more along the center line.

Is there an advantage or disadvantage to using frame or hitch mount? For hitch mount my worry is the locking hitch pins from places like Amazon isn’t truly rated for what it says and could be a weak point.

Or just put a soft shackle through the hitch pin in the receiver and skip the D ring shackle hitch entirely.

Either way this is way more sturdy than the bolt on stuff... not red though, so not as COOL

The hitch pin is more than strong enough for recovery to be honest. Just use the one that came with the truck.

Considerably stronger than garbage like this:

But if you use this method an offroad shop can't sell you a drop shipped recovery point for $250

It should go without saying that you need good kinetic recovery ropes. Haven't had to use my Bubba ropes yet but they're really nice. I wouldn't go amazon for that.

Thanks for the answer. Last time I went out I gave away my 2”x20‘ tow rope and soft shackles to a guy in a stuck jeep. His buddy in a Ram was about to try to extract him out of mud with cheap Home Depot husky ratching tie downs.

I didn’t have to be the one pulling that time but it did get me wondering which tow point would be best to use if I were to resort to a kinetic rope. I’ve since tossed the factory hitch pin back in the bed with the other recovery stuff.

that was very nice of you, that is a much safer setup than ratcheting tie downs.

cant go wrong with the pin, it's an even better setup on the 4G because the receiver is literally welded to the frame, not just bolted like the previous gens, doesn't get much stronger than that

1000% behind bubba ropes. Have used them at work. They work great. Protects your truck, safer, and the kinetic action does better than chains, straps, etc.

super good product.
