I’ve been noticing lately at the pump I will go to fill my tank and the pump will stop way before the tank is actually full…. Anyone else having this issue.

I’m reading it could be the evap is some sort of clogged….

any one have this issue and fix it?
Thanks

I have not had this issue, but I ask, do you normally "top off" your tank when you fill up?

I usually just pull the pump out once it trips but since it trips early I will pump it again and sometime I guess it will “top off” because I don’t know how much is actually in the tank. So I do top off from time to time I also know that it’s not good for the tank to top off and that’s why I try and avoid it as much as possible

"Topping off" involved pulling the nozzle partway out so that gas would come up near the top of the fill neck. A big no-no with modern evaporative emission systems. If you leave the nozzle fully inserted and just trigger it again you should be fine. Just don't do it repeatedly when the nozzle shuts off immediately.

Gotcha yeah if you were topping it off before it started having issues I could see that. That is weird on a new vehicle that would be a problem already.

Dumb question, but how do you know the tank isn't full?

Some gas station pumps have more sensitive overflow cutoff than others (or it's going bad) and will trip the handles to stop more easily than normal. I doubt it's the exact case for our Tacomas, but when my 2020 Colorado encountered the exact same issue across multiple cities, stations, and pumps I looked it up and they had a TSB for one of the purge or vent solenoids not opening correctly. Another symptom was i could smell gas standing nearby every once in a while, even though it wasn't leaking or anything in the ground. Kept popping an emissions code.
Thankfully it was a company truck because the dealership had the drop the tank to reach it. I don't ever try to "top off" on any of my vehicles. Otherwise the charcoal evap canister gets backlash with liquid gasoline and can deteriorate it much quicker causing blockages/ failure of the evap gas purge which puts those fumes back into your system when running.

Does the gauge read full and DTE normal after a fill up without adding additional? Also sometimes the pump pressure will trip it early if it's flowing fast. And if the handle isn't perpendicular to the ground, i.e. you pump with the handle canted to one side or the other, it will trip early. I stop when it shuts off the first time and my gauge and DTE are always normal full.
