I'm looking at purchasing a lone peak camper for my TRD off road. I have a couple concerns when it comes to weight and MPG hit. Wondering if any other owners can provide any insight into what the MPG hit was when installing one..

I've had my '24 Tacoma OR DCLB for almost exactly one year and have had the LP camper since the end of June last year. I just turned 17,000 miles on the truck. I love it! For the money I don't think there's a better wedge camper on the market.

You will take a MPG hit with any weight you carry and this is no different. It's not just the camper, you have the full build to consider. I figure I'm carrying at least 1,000 lbs, although I have yet to formally weigh it. I average between 15-17 mpg but from talking to people with the 3rd gen, it's not really much different and the engine handles the load well. I rarely even notice the weight.

Here's a thread I started, although I've done quite a bit to both the camper and the truck since then.

Feel free to ask any specific questions you might have. Other than the six foot bed, it will be very similar.

Here's what the truck looks like as of yesterday...

Appreciate the response! "For the money I don't think there's a better wedge camper on the market." This was the conclusion i've been coming to. Thanks for added info here!

Old post revival, but are there accessories that you feel like are a must have on the LP you ordered? I've got a deposit down for one and I'm trying to decide if I want to just order it bare bones and DIY everything or spend the extra money and have them do most of it. Thanks!

Ya, old post. I have a TRD-OR with a Dirtbox. Same idea, and the Lone Peak was my second choice.

Expect a huge hit to mileage. I get 16-17. I don't care.

That's good to know on the mileage, thanks for the response.

I've had a V1 since June '24 and haven't looked at the available accessories recently so I'm not really up on the V2 but my thought is that everyone is different in their skill levels and what they're comfortable doing after the purchase. Some people want a turnkey solution, some want to do everything themselves. Only you know what you are comfortable with.

In general though, I would pay for things that can't easily be added after the fact. The ceiling fan is an example. Sure, you could cut the hole and install it yourself later, but that wasn't anything I wanted to do.

So, things I am happy I paid for that I felt needed to be purchased up front.
- Roof vent fan
- Solar wiring ports (I bought two, one for solar and one for Starlink/cell booster/etc...)
- Diesel heater port.

Things I didn't need and wish I HAD NOT bought.
- Cab pass-through window. I have never opened it once and it leaks when I'm driving in heavy rain...
- Ladder. I built a drawer system and a small stool is plenty for me to hop up into bed. The ladder hung too low when stored and was just a convenient way for me to slice my bald head open every month or so.
- Tall load bars. I actually would get the load bars, but I bought the tall so whatever I put on the roof would clear the vent. Turns out that hasn't been an issue and I wish I'd bought the regular shorter load bars. You could argue that the load bars don't need to be purchased up front since you can add them at any time, but realistically if you want load bars, you'll want the ones from LP since the mounting brackets are specific angles that you won't get from any aftermarket product.

Other items such as grab handles and awning mounts can be added at any time and there are aftermarket options if you want to save some money. The LP accessories are quality items though and are worth the cost IMHO but only get them if you need them. Grab handles are nice though.

Power distribution is totally personal. I got the juicebox (and I think it's required when you're buying powered accessories like the roof vent). I am happy with the juicebox. It works well and is convenient for wiring other items (lights I've added and whatnot). I did not buy any of the other powerplate options and I don't regret not getting them. I run an Ecoflow Delta 2 with a Delta Max extra battery and a 110v/12v converter and I'm perfectly happy with that solution. I'm not sure I'd buy their solar panel. The original ones they sold were junk. Not sure what the new one is but I have three Renogy 100watt panels that I installed myself and they're perfect for my purposes.

Hope that helps.
