I went to school with a guy like that. Drove a 99 F150 XL and spent so much money on making it look like an SVT Lightning. Bumpers, wheels, badges, etc.... it looked the part and was of course pretty sharp looking but just a plain ol' gutless 4.2L V6 work truck under it all. I could honestly excuse the styling if he didn't also slap the frickin' badges on. That's peak cringe, I think.
but the badges and stickers add 20hp!

1. Fang lights and raptor lights. Raptor lights only belong on a genuine Ford Raptor
2. Excessive poke on rims, and just fugly wheel and tire combos. Especially oversized AT tires on SR5 factory silver painted rims.
3. Heritage color inserts on the grill and, well, anywhere on the truck tbh
4. Color matching inserts, covers, stickers on the interior
5. Hood emblems (ex. ā€œTRD Sportā€) on trucks that never came with hood emblems. The only emblems that are OEM and legit are TRD Pro and iForce Max.
6. Any modification to the muffler to make it ā€œsound betterā€. You won’t, you’ll never…it’s a 4 banger and the exhaust note will always be nails on a chalkboard. Don’t make it worse.
7. Trying desperately to make your low trim truck look like and be optioned like a high trim truck. Don’t do it. If it’s an SR5, let it be an SR5.
8. Heritage blue and wave maker blue. These colors are an abomination. The only vehicle that can get away with wild colors is a Jeep Wrangler…but then the people that buy them tend to be wild as well

BUT…to each their own. It’s your money and your truck…make it your own! Just be prepared to have thick skin if you go extreme on the mods and ask peoples opinions lol
Some of these I can agree with, but I am personally offended by the "let an SR5 be an SR5" 🤣🤣🤣 I don't think you should be sour when someone with an SR5 modifies their truck with better components than the crap that the Toyota salesman up sold you.
I've seen some SR5s that would straight up crawl over your OEM OR while you're fucking around trying to get your Bluetooth connected.

I'm torn on these. My white truck came with factory (port) applied black letter fills that doesn't look bad but I also just think it would look better without them. I might end up taking them off... idk.

yeah the red is garish and I would be pulling those if it was my truck. I don't really mind the black fills, especially because it's part of a "blackout" badge package, so it fits with the rest of them, but I still feel like it calls too much attention to the already huge tailgate lettering. I don't really care to go around screaming "TACOMA" at everyone. I really wish they were all just stamped with "TOYOTA" instead.

I don’t think this is what they’re saying.

they’re talking about the guy who goes out and gets the higher trim badging and all that. Aesthetics, not performance.

once you start modding things with upgraded off-road stuff, the trim stops mattering as much outside of creature comforts.

If I was intending to go all in and build a off-road truck:
1: I wouldn’t have bought a brand new truck.
2. I’d buy the cheapest trim with 4x4
3. I’d rip out all the factory junk and replace with upgrades for suspension, etc.

the trim only really matters on stock trucks w/ respect to off-road performance. Once you mod them for performance, who cares what trim it started as. If you did a good job, it doesn’t really matter what you started with if it has the base parts needed (4x4).

Ergo, throwing on only appearance junk to simulate a higher trim is lame. Upgrading performance for your needs/wants, not lame (if you actually use it/need it).
