That makes sense. But how to eliminate the spring loaded grippers?

Just make an insert that keeps them compressed at all times. Press the insert into the grippers like a cup. There is no need for grippers, it is deep enough to hold the drinks without it. Even a rigid plastic ring would work.
The goal is to compress the grippers permanently effectively eliminating them.

Yes, a container that would fill both cup holders with a lid that sits flush with the top.

My Taco Limited, in Heritage Blue, will be build 9/25 but, already, has many factory mods....including my favorite of the powered running boards.
I have a list of mods planned, already..
-Removing the weird air dam on the front
-Toyota hard-sided tonneau cover. (I have the Toyota version on my 2014 Tundra and it's great.)
-Clear bra protection
-Windows tinted
-Lasfit floor mats
-RokBlokz mud flaps
-Tailgate bed step
-Hood struts
-Underhood lighting
-Various interior mods like shelving and larger cup holder for the center dash
-Protective covers for the 14" screen and dash screen

I'm, currently working on cleaning out my garage since, unlike my Tundra, this truck WILL fit in the there....very happy about that.

Looking over my build, puzzled at to why Toyota is doing the black badge overlay when the wheels and truck are chromed out.....but I did see a lighted Toyota Badge to replace the front badge, so might add that sometime.
