Since I bought this truck I can't count the number of times I've gotten in, android auto didn't connect, I had to go in manually to connect, and I'd yell "IT'S 2026! WHY THE HELL WON'T THIS STAY CONNECTED!" I got used to the process though and almost forgot about it.
Well, come to find out (for my Pixel 10 anyways) as long as I start the truck with my phone's screen unlocked it automatically connects every time. I tried it with the screen locked today to confirm and lo and behold, it wouldn't connect and I had to do it manually.
I feel a little stupid posting this since it was such an easy fix, but hopefully this will help someone who's having the same issue and not looking at an obvious solution staring them right in the face.

Cheers,

Is this option enabled? I have no problems connecting........
Yes! It is.

I'm not sure what the issue is, but have heard a lot of folks complain about connectivity issues with Android Auto/ carplay.

I could try resetting everything I suppose

Roger that, BTW, I'm on a P10 as well. How about this setting on the BT, seems counterintuitive, but I seem to recall it helped.

Thanks dude! All of those are turned on as well.

I'll try to clear the profiles and pairings and repair. Maybe that will do it. Would be really nice if it just paired right up Everytime. Nice to hear yours does without unlocking the screen. And here I thought I was saving the android world with my old man trick of unlocking the screen 😂

Ok. 100% solved now.
Went in, deleted pairing from Toyota, forgot pairing from phone, repaired, added it as preferred decide on my Toyota profile, checked the settings you sent, now it works locked!

Just thought I was gonna have to live that way with the manual pairing every single drive 😂 Guess I aged at some point

The issue I have with android auto (Pixel 8) is that on longer drives it disconnects a lot. To reconnect it I just need to wake the phone back up and it will reconnect, but it's irritating. I turned off the battery saver feature for Android Auto thinking that would fix it but it doesn't. You guys ever have this problem?

Yea I have had that happen a couple times on long drives. The AI bot says Disable battery saver and clear cache, but I haven't had that happen enough to try and troubleshoot it.

I was concerned about AA after hearing people having issues. But frankly I haven't really had any. Once in a blue moon I might need to reboot by holding the volume button down. But usually any connectivity issues are self inflicted...mostly me forgetting to turn on wi-fi on my phone.

I have a samsung Z-fold.

What I have found is that if I have the VPN enabled, AA will not start - even with the 'start while locked' is enabled. When it doesn't connect to AA, that's usually my issue.

Yes, split tunneling is set to 'allow'....but doesn't seem to matter.

Additionally, I go into my radio "source" setting (truck side) and use the "radio" setting instead of my phone. This allows the truck to connect to my radio (sirius) regardless of my phone connection status.

One other AI insight I got somewhere was, if you have wireless charge, was to turn the phone face first to not charge the phone at the same time as using AA. Crazy? Yeah, but on local drives I do that automatically now. On a road trip, I'll just watch the charge, as it usually lasts 6-8 hours or so anyways. Since you can't turn off the wireless charging on the Taco, Mr. AI thought it might interfere with AA and suggested this.

Never once has clearing the cache ever fixed anything that was wrong with my electronic devices.
