What did you drive before, and what kind of gas mileage did you get?

I know there are dozens of posts about mpg and fuel tank size. This post is less of a complaint and just my experience. Downloaded Fuely app to record my “normal” daily driving just to work and back. I’m currently averaging 8.2 mpg. That’s mixed highway and city. That’s wild. I’m using 93 premium fuel. I love my truck. Fuel efficiency is probably the last of my cares but it’s definitely inconvenient having to fill up every 1.5 days. Again, not a complaint, just my experience.
I also drive a Trailhunter, 2024.
It is possible, with care and gliding (it charges the battery) when you see a red light ahead and on all downhills, to get 17/18 on the city.
HWY I try to keep it between 2000 to 2500 rpms, it is the sweet spot of the transmission and, especially if you avoid sudden acceleration, it is possible to get 16 /17 mpg with 65 to 85 speeds.
If you plan heavy duty offroad stuff you must buy some form of auxiliary tank, at least 5 gal, to make sure you will get out the other end.
It is a truck unlike like any other of its size, drives wonderfully but the consumption/ tank size, was definitely a screw up by Toyota

I’ll try that. 2000 to 2500. I’ll see what happens and post an update. The vehicle’s MPG tracker is definitely different from the Fuelly app. I’m not sure which is more accurate.

Fuelly will likely be best since you tell it the exact amount of fuel purchased. Then the only real question is odometer accuracy, which is easily checked. .

I average 19.5 to 19.7 in my 25 trailhunter. Mostly small country roads and limited town driving. I did add an aluminum bed cover and front runner bed racks. They are short, below the roof line so there isn’t any real wind drag. I have been interested in everyone’s mileage experience. I’m in Texas and the spring winds have been heavy. I’m curious if it will improve with the windless days of summer.

Fuelly uses simple math. Number of miles divided by number of gallons.

If you are getting 8mpg, your truck is fucked up.

Yep. If it were me, I'd fill up, find a route where I could drive 100 miles at 65 or so without any stop and go, reset a trip meter and do a round-trip using cruise control. Then fill up again and calculate mpg. If it was still below 16, I'd head right to the dealer.

This thread has lost its original reason to exist, and it was:
The Trailhunter's gas consumption is SIGNIFICANTLY less than the 23 to 24 mpg advertised.
All contributors have reported way less than that.
The second point is that, despite the abysmally low mpg number, the gas tank has been reduced by 4 gallons to 18.2.
So, in the end, we have a truck wonderfully designed for overlanding that probably will run out of gas on the long, say over 125 miles long trails.
I say probably since no one has reported mpg towing a trailer on an off-road trail.
So, lets do just that, let's see, now that Summer is here, what are we really talking about.
That is the point, not the price of gas or better mileage driving slowly, watching the acceleration, etc
In my opinion, it is the best designed and powerfull 4x4 in the world BUT, it does not go far on a tank of gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

eh its worse than epa but epa tests are shit.

I look at it this way: It's a lifted truck with 33s and a ton of armor. I can get 22mpg on the highway without doing anything special. im happy with that.

Offroad worse for sure, but outside of like, Dalton highway fuel station closures im not really sure what trails you would not have the ability to get out to refuel within the range we have.

Towing a 3500ish pound trailer I average somewhere between 13 and 14mpg even when going through the mountains. But I baby it on the acceleration and rarely ever above 65mph.

That's s a 24 TH at about 6k miles. I feel like I lost about 2mpg (non towing) when I added stock size Wildpeak at4s due to increased weight but impossible to know for sure. Non towing with mixed driving about 16-17mpg. From what I've seen posted, hybrid drive trains seem to practically always get lower mpg than ICE ones. I don't expect better but I do expect equal.

I always expect EPA number should be high and real life numbers should be about 3mpg lower. I fully expected to average 19-20mpg combined.

Thanks.
How is it that you get 22mpg?
What are you doing?
What is your normal driving speed on a 75mph speed limit?
My best mileage has been 17mpg trying hard to keep it below 2500rpm's.
