21 4Runner. Mpgs were a bit better. What did you drive before, and what kind of gas mileage did you get?
How can best MPG be 8.2 and average be 16.2?
I also drive a Trailhunter, 2024.I know there are dozens of posts about mpg and fuel tank size. This post is less of a complaint and just my experience. Downloaded Fuely app to record my “normal” daily driving just to work and back. I’m currently averaging 8.2 mpg. That’s mixed highway and city. That’s wild. I’m using 93 premium fuel. I love my truck. Fuel efficiency is probably the last of my cares but it’s definitely inconvenient having to fill up every 1.5 days. Again, not a complaint, just my experience.
Fuelly will likely be best since you tell it the exact amount of fuel purchased. Then the only real question is odometer accuracy, which is easily checked. .I’ll try that. 2000 to 2500. I’ll see what happens and post an update. The vehicle’s MPG tracker is definitely different from the Fuelly app. I’m not sure which is more accurate.
Fuelly uses simple math. Number of miles divided by number of gallons.I’ll try that. 2000 to 2500. I’ll see what happens and post an update. The vehicle’s MPG tracker is definitely different from the Fuelly app. I’m not sure which is more accurate.
Yep. If it were me, I'd fill up, find a route where I could drive 100 miles at 65 or so without any stop and go, reset a trip meter and do a round-trip using cruise control. Then fill up again and calculate mpg. If it was still below 16, I'd head right to the dealer.Fuelly uses simple math. Number of miles divided by number of gallons.
If you are getting 8mpg, your truck is fucked up.

Towing a 3500ish pound trailer I average somewhere between 13 and 14mpg even when going through the mountains. But I baby it on the acceleration and rarely ever above 65mph.This thread has lost its original reason to exist, and it was:
The Trailhunter's gas consumption is SIGNIFICANTLY less than the 23 to 24 mpg advertised.
All contributors have reported way less than that.
The second point is that, despite the abysmally low mpg number, the gas tank has been reduced by 4 gallons to 18.2.
So, in the end, we have a truck wonderfully designed for overlanding that probably will run out of gas on the long, say over 125 miles long trails.
I say probably since no one has reported mpg towing a trailer on an off-road trail.
So, lets do just that, let's see, now that Summer is here, what are we really talking about.
That is the point, not the price of gas or better mileage driving slowly, watching the acceleration, etc
In my opinion, it is the best designed and powerfull 4x4 in the world BUT, it does not go far on a tank of gas!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks.eh its worse than epa but epa tests are shit.
I look at it this way: It's a lifted truck with 33s and a ton of armor. I can get 22mpg on the highway without doing anything special. im happy with that.
Offroad worse for sure, but outside of like, Dalton highway fuel station closures im not really sure what trails you would not have the ability to get out to refuel within the range we have.
