I'm thinking about making the switch to a Tacoma, I"ll have a bike on a tailgate pad a lot of the time. I don't have to lock it often, but after a ride if I need to run in somewhere I use this fairly large Kryptonite bike lock: https://www.rei.com/product/206299/kryptonite-keeper-785-integrated-chain-lock?sku=2062990001&store=&CAWELAID=120217890013427537&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=107744800984&CATCI=aud-1396942688155:pla-444972961838&cm_mmc=PLA_Google|21700000001700551_2062990001|444972961838|brand_flag|10023999036&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=10023999036&gclid=Cj0KCQjwhafEBhCcARIsAEGZEKKkruIpbFJcIQyXLFyGrawgoM17S-7d-jADJfbpz1bds6_L_vQT3yQaAhcAEALw_wcB

I remember in the past with a rental car that the D-ring is too small for this, so what is your method for locking?
I use a 6-foot cable lock if I have to lock. I bought the type that has a smaller head that inserts into the lock body. This allows me to run it through the D-ring on the truck bed and then through the bike frames. Hopefully just enough to slow down a thief and get him to move on.

The one I own is masterlock brand, but several years old. I'm not sure the exact part number of it - but it looks similar to this:

Thanks, and I think I'm right down the road from you in Charleston, I ride up around Clemson (Stumphouse and Saluda) quite a bit, going to Kanuga and Pisgah this weekend.

I've had the T3 on for 6 months now....well off and on. Mostly on. Two observations:

1. The black finish has already started to fade, not a big deal.
2. I have noticed some small scratches underneath, I probably let sand under and didn't have it tight enough, so completely user error, just something to watch out for.

No issues on the downtube/fork of the bikes though. All in all I like having it over the 1UP, easy to throw a bike up there, doesn't stick out from the rear, and I can hang my longboard off it without scratching the tailgate or board.

I would be interested to see what other pads have worked well for the 4th gen. I hope Sensus comes out with an update to the TacoPad, that one looks to be the best of the bunch.

I have a Kuat Huk from my last truck - awesome pad, but doesn't fit the Tacoma well at all because of the little lip spoiler on top of the tailgate. Bends the pad up in the middle so it doesn't sit flat and it looks like ass. Looks like the RaceFace is a bit thinner on top so it can deform a bit over the spoiler and still sit even.

I wish some aftermarket company would make a flat top for the tailgate to solve this issue.

I e-mailed Sensus when I got the truck and they said their Taco pad wouldn't work because the camera wouldn't line up but that they had a new model coming this year.
