rear brake job, fully extended cylinder

I'm in the middle of doing a rear brake job, and while the truck was in EPB Service Mode, it came out of that mode (I think I sat on the key fob or something) and now I have a rear brake cylinder fully extended and the truck is throwing emergency brake warnings, and I can't get it back into EPB Service Mode to recompress the cylinder.

How do I get that cylinder recompressed? Do I need to loosen the banjo valve and bleed it a little bit, or is there a way to get the truck to pull it back in?

with door clsoed, power button twice, hold down brake pedal, brake switch up 3 times, down 3 times and hold down on the last down for 10 seconds

Interesting, seems to be the correct method. However in order to release it when you're done you just hold the brake switch up (to engage it). Not sure how that could have engaged like you say.

Use a scan tool to put it back into service mode. You could also keep trying the EPB Service Mode procedure, it is really finicky and it took me 10 tries to time it just right. Do not try to compress the rear brake cylinder straight back in, there are cases of folks damaging the EPB actuator doing this while it is not in service mode

I don't have one personally but something like the XTOOL D7S would work. I think you also need it to change coolant as well.

I think you can manually retract the cylinder by removing the epb module and using a hex socket. There’s YT vids on it

Remove the 2 screws that hold the actuator onto the caliper and separate them. Push the piston all the way back in and install onto vehicle. Next take the actuator and unplug it. You can either turn it back by hand or some people have had success by using a small battery and some wire. The safer method is definitely turning it by hand. Once you turn it in, just reinstall onto caliper, plug it in, and then pump brakes. Once that is done, either try to put it back into service mode and then take it out so it properly sets the position or operate parking brake on and off a few times to make sure it is working(This has worked for me before). If parking brake light is flashing or giving you an error you may need a scan tool to clear the fault or try disconnecting the battery to let that clear the codes.
