Made my first set of collars for my rear frame ARB recovery hook location. If you have a Sport, SR etc and want recovery hooks that will not destroy your frame, you must duplicate what the factory did on the Pro and Trailhunter. I will say making these was very time consuming and I still have to spot weld in. I guess what I'm wanting to say to everyone who wants recovery hooks, do it right and install these collars to strengthen your frame. I'll post the final look of the frame before and after soon.

My off road had reinforced spots on frame for the ARB rear recovery points. Looks like thick washers welded to frame on both sides of frame. What does the Pro and Trailhunter use for reinforcing the frame?

You likely have these collars mounted from the factory. The Sport and SR models have plastic plugs and hollow inside the frame rail. Pro and Trailhunter also has this reinforced collar. I have seen some folks mount recovery hooks through the hollow frame. Looks great but will not survive a strong pull.

Oh. Ok. I understand now. What I thought was just thick washers welded to the frame are actually a “collar” (like you made) going through the frame and welded on the ends.

thank you for the explanation. I went and verified my off road does have this. Very nice indeed.

So, If someone has an SR Version (I do) - buying the recover points and installing them will attache them to the hollow frame and will not support as required??
What does the MFG (i.e. ARB ?, etc. ) say in in install instructions. I'd assume they would warn you to be sure you have the required frame stiffeners ???

Excellent question. ARB has in their picture instruction, a picture of a frame with plastic plugs and a frame with collars installed (looks like welded washers). The instructions say STOP if your frame has plastic plugs. I know this because I learned the hard way and why I had to make these.

Hey Tim nice job on the collars. I’ve been searching for someone who makes them over here in SoCal with no luck. Once you’re done and if you ever feel like making another set, I’d be happy to pay for them. Thanks!

Thanks. Let me finish getting them spot welded in and I will post the finished product. The goal here is the same look and function as factory. If you like the final when I post, let me know and I'll make you a set now that I know how to.

Thank you for the explanation on how these work and why they’re needed. I have a SR5 and was wondering why they didn’t come as an option from dealer. Watching for progress as another option to run rear recovery points.

Informative post, thank you. Almost an Easter egg for OR owners. There are more differences between an OR and other non halo trims than it first appears. I'm thinking of the front cross member and the straps on the fuel tank. I believe those are different. I'm sure someone will correct me if that's not the case. But it's cool how you fabricated your own solution. Props for that.
