I had my TH for several months before I got Roof Rack put on.. Mileage was essentially the same. Go figure.

honestly it blew my mind. i instantly saw an increase in gas mileage and an extra 100kms of range the day after i removed the rack. city mileage was not really affected much. maybe 10% at best. but the numbers i got in my post are real numbers. no change in cargo (if anything lightened my load since the wife was not with me)
at 100kmh, i was getting 16-17L / 100km on highway. consistently, in eco mode.
with no rack travelling 110 (speed limit) i was getting anywhere frm 10-11.5L/100km

same route. same destination. same cargo (minus the wife and shes only 130lbs)
I go and look at wind speed plus wind direction if what changes is not obvious to me.

Did Toyota mount it backwards? 😁

I love my Martin OR (NC USA) roof rack, pairs exceptionally well with my GFC. Had those guys cut a larger fairing and saw a 3+ MPG bump vs just the GFC on it. Makes a huge difference pushes a lot of air over the RTT and holds my RinseKit out of the wind. Couldn’t ask for a better setup. Currently at 21 MPGs on TH, eying ~24 before switching treads in ~10-12 months.

I had Martin OffRoad cut 1 aluminum load panel for the RinseKit and I did the other 2 in ACM panel for weight/UV/severe weather as the forward load bars will only see firewood netted down and the cargo cam will get mounted $ tucked just behind the spoiler. Looking forward to that as I travel with paddle & surfboards in the summer / always wishing I could see how the gear on the roof is doing

Beautiful set up. How’s the GFC treating you?
thanks man, GFC is great no issues…stupid-easy to open, a little finesse to close up. The wall fabric, headliner & that turbo nap doesn’t leave much room in the RTT so gotta takes your time packing it up. I intend to winter camp in it a few times so we’ll see how closing the tent handles with snow & ice. Probably not amazing, packing heat gun just incase lol

also they claim an awning up to 80lbs can be supported on the rails, my 270 is 45lbs and flexes those rails a bit, that’s the only eyebrow raiser on the build

i'm waiting on a half rack to release since i have a short bed and a GFC on my 4th gen. would rather have a half than buy a rack and cut it up to make it fit. Going to be at Expo MW this week and will be attending Sherpa's vendor party so i will have to bug someone there lol

I hounded those guys twice at Sherpa, being local here seemed like an easy way to go, and they said there’s not enough demand yet to develop one. So I went digging online.

I’m guessing you know this: because of the shark fin and the location of the rear mounts for the roof rack, getting a ā€˜half rack’ might involve punching holes in your roof. The roof racks on the gen 4s extend all the way now and tuck under the RTT in order to reach those rear mounting holes

yeah, it may come down to making custom brackets to reach the back. that martin rack is interesting though since they notch it for the GFC specifically. i will reach out to them after we get back from Expo.

Gage the owner at Martin OR did his first gen 4 / GFC rack on my rig and he now has an updated design that contours the rain gutters too, we did the beta on it. That shark fin basically affords the rack builder some real estate to get brackets and framing in there without Swiss cheesing your roof. I prefer this frame to fill out the sides, the more wind I can deflect out of there the better.

IDK why this seemed not a worthwhile effort for Sherpa. They have a huge gen 2-3 cohort to cater to I guess.

when you installed the rack, did you have to raise the GFC up to get to those rear bolts? looks like it's a bit tight and not much room to reach in there.
