Satisfied, so far

I've owned many makes and models over the years, including many Toyotas. I tend to lean towards them but I'm certainly not fan-boy.

I did alot of research before buying my current SR. There's are good and bad for all makes. Nothing is perfect. All one can do is pick out one that checks the most boxes. The Frontier was so-so. I looked at the GM twins. GM doesn't seem interested in offering anything other than loaded up trims when it comes to the GMC. I guess that's the market they are aiming for. I just didn't see the value. Plus I'm not not into flashy chrome and whatnot most seem to have. The Colorado would have more my pace and the turbo is a nice engine. But I just left the test drive underwhelmed.

I deliberately waited a couple of months for my base SR to come in. I didn't buy that trim because I'm cheap or couldn't afford other trims. In fact, I drove several Tacoma trims and they were nice and I almost pulled the trigger on a TRD DCSB OR. But I'm a simple guy these days and just saw no reason to buy things I don't care about. Plus I genuinely like the clean look and the steel wheels.

After a couple of months of ownership I feel like I made the right decision on a Tacoma. The power delivery is great, the transmission shifts perfectly, the ergonomics are really good, no squeaks and rattles and way better gas mileage than I anticipated. I just don't really have any real complaints. Yes, I wish it had a locking fuel door. Yes I would have paid a couple of bucks extra for rear defrost. But those are nit-picky things and really just first world problems.

Here's hoping she is reliable in the long run.

I also have "De-Trimmed" in recent years. I've had vehicles with all the doo dads and I've found they are just not worth the bucks plus the lower trims seem more comfortable to me.

Oh I've definitely poured a lot of time and money into vehicles and modding over the years. I don't necessarily regret that. It was fun at the time. But things like that just aren't as important to me these days. I want a clean, simple, reliable, comfortable vehicle. I'm not trying to impress anyone.

As a fellow xtracab fan, I think your truck looks great as well. While missing out on some features available on the higher trims (like the locking fuel door you mention) my feeling is the same as yours——the truck is equipped w/ everything I actually need. Still love it and very satisfied. If starting over, I’d get the same one again too. Not too many XCs out there, so it’s always nice to see another one.

As a fellow xtracab fan, I think your truck looks great as well. While missing out on some features available on the higher trims (like the locking fuel door you mention) my feeling is the same as yours——the truck is equipped w/ everything I actually need. Still love it and very satisfied. If starting over, I’d get the same one again too. Not too many XCs out there, so it’s always nice to see another one.

Thanks. I appreciate the compliment. I've owned a lot of trucks over the years. I had 2 DCs, a '15 and a '23. Nice rigs. I had the '15 for 7 years and the '23 for 2 years. That's a total of 9 years. I bet in that time there was someone in the back seat of either rig maybe 5 times combined, and that included when my kids were younger. I just didn't need that space.

But all my other trucks were regular cabs....3 Tacomas and 2 Mazda B's. I always loved them. I feel like my '26 is kind of a regular cab even though it isn't. Plus I like the longer bed.

Yep. I feel the same way. Coming from a regular cab myself, the XC just feels like it has a lot more add’l storage area back there——would’ve been nice for Toyota to have kept the AC suicide doors for easier access, but getting the 6’ bed minus the longer truck w/ wider turning radius was an incredibly easy choice for us. Your previous trucks all look great too——here’s mine since most of us here like Tacoma pics . . . .

Looks great. At the time I was looking at Tacomas, my dealer had an xtra-cab TRD PreRunner. It was very nice. But as beautiful as they are, I swore a long time ago I wouldn't own another black vehicle. Just too much upkeep. BTW, the DCSB TRD OR I nearly bought was Underground. I love that color.

And yeah, having an access door on the extra-cab on one side would have been nice. But really, it's not that big of a deal for me.

Thanks very much----it's been a great truck. Feel fortunate that Toyota didn't decide to scrap the 2-doors all together as most others have. None of the "missing features" were deal-breakers for us either. We like the Underground as well, but had to wait several months for the dealer to find our truck. Interestingly enough, the first time I ever saw a PreRunner (of any color) out in the wild was purchasing this one.
