Has anyone ever noticed discrepancies between toyota.com and Toyota's smartphone app? Specifically, the SmartLED Ambient Lighting does not appear as an option under the Lighting category on toyota.com => Tacoma => Build and Price for TRD Sport / TRD Offroad / Limited, but it does on the phone app for TRD Sport / TRD Offroad / Limited. My 2024 Ranger Lariat was advertised as having ambient lighting, but Ford misrepresented the unchangeable zone accent light as such.

Does SmartLED Ambient Lighting really exist as a Tacoma option?

Pretty sure it is dealer specific. Not a Toyota option.
I hadn't thought of that. After seeing your response, I went back to the app and found the ambient lighting is "available" on all Tacoma models except for the SR XtraCab.

I may be retarded (probably am), but what exactly is "ambient" lighting?

Never seen that as an option before. Wondering if it's something new or?

From AI:

The Smart LED ambient lighting system is not part of an official Toyota factory package (like a Technology or Premium Package). [1]
Instead, it is classified as a standalone Port-Installed Accessory (PIA) or Dealer-Installed Accessory. [1]

How the Option Works
  • Standalone Selection: Because it is a standalone accessory rather than a rigid trim bundle, it could be individually added to any 2024+ Tacoma trim level (SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, Limited, etc.) at the time the truck was ordered.
  • Regional Availability: It is predominantly found on trucks distributed through Southeast Toyota Dealers (covering Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina). Distributors in these states routinely add the kit to various inventory trucks before sending them to dealership lots. [1, 2, 3]
  • Over-the-Counter Purchase: Because it is an official part (00016-00K02), any Tacoma owner can purchase the kit directly from a Toyota parts department and have the dealer install it later, completely independent of how the truck was configured from the factory. [1, 2, 3]

Don't think AI got this one right. Tried to look up that part number and the only sites that DID get a hit was a discontinued PVC part.

I checked with my local dealer parts department (I'm in Florida so we are in the SE Toyota Distributors) and they said it is port installed before sending to dealers. Quite a few trucks on the lot have this and I wanted it on my 2024. Cannot order it from parts so AI was half right.

I'm in Florida as well and have been checking inventory on toyota.com. There's very little out there matching my criteria although what is out there is nicely discounted. I have never seen one with the ambient lighting option. Even though the ambient lighting in the Ranger Lariat is now more accurately called "zone accent lighting," I think ordering a new one with now-available power moonroof to replace my '24 is the way to go for me.

I would purposefully NOT buy from a SET dealer

I've observed from peculiar practices (I'm originally from New York and Connecticut). Suffice it to say, I will never pay $1299 - $1500 dealership fees , $1500 "Market Adjustment surcharge," or "Dealer-installed options (i.e. $1200 pinstriping / VIN etching)."

Yep, that's all SET dealers lol. Not to mention Florida specifically seems to have some of the highest doc fees
