Edit 05/19/26: I lied, body shop wasn't finished when I went to get it even though they said they would be. When i went, they had it parked in front of the shop like it was ready for pickup, but there was no clear coat yet and most of the parts removed were not reinstalled. Told me sorry come back tomorrow (today). They initially told me 3 days on the estimate but we are going on 3 weeks now, so I'm kinda pissed. Wasted time off from work to go get it twice already. Also don't want to make a stink as I don't want a purposely shitty paint job. Probably more frustrated than anything. I understand that insurance jobs and commercial jobs take priority due to the money they can get from them but still, wtf bro.
Supposed to get it today, but I am not confident they were able to re-mask the entire paint area, spray the clear coat, and cure it in the last 24 hrs. We will see. I should have just taken the dive and learned to paint on my own. Probably would have cost the same and taken the same amount of time, and it would be all my own doing with whatever happens.
I think I'm pissed because it's mostly on them, but it's also on me for being lazy and taking it to a shop when it is technically a DIY-able project. I'm probably also tired of being forced to use public transportation and ashamed for having to ask other people for rides. Feels like I'm back in high school again! Maybe i just miss the feeling of independence from having my own vehicle.
Okay... i apologize but rant complete. Lessons learned - having a truck that you can start up and drive anywhere anytime is dope af. DIY when you can even if it takes effort. Make damn sure the estimate given is correct and adhered to, and get it all in writing.
