I’m not sure how they ship these days. My rack is 5-6 years old and did come with a locking security pin.

Thanks - poor use of term on my end. Its the hitch "lock" I am referring to that stops the rack from being removed.
Is this what you're talking about? 2”-2.5” Slotted Hitch Bar Lock - 1UP USA . I don't have that, I just have the special 8mm bolt that actuates the ball which secures the rack in the hitch. My rack is almost 10 years old so I'm not sure what exactly they look like today.

Looks like this…

Sorry to bring back the thread, but I'm curious how annoying this is on a day to day basis?

I'm looking to move to a 4th gen OR with the premium package, and I've typically just left my 1Up single-tray on my 3rd gen since I tend to use it a couple times a week.

Not annoying at all. Set it and forget it… it doesn’t revert back to “on” after cycling the key. Takes 3-5 seconds to change it when needed.

Thanks - does it pop up that warning every time when disabled and is any action needed or does the warning self-dismiss?

The center of the MID (driver’s screen area) will pop up a message to let you know that PKSB is inactive, it will go away once you’re moving, but a quick button push will dismiss the message. It’s not intrusive in the least.

In your first message, you quoted the pic I posted… in that pic, you can see the message that pops up upon startup if PKSB is off. In the upper right corner, you can see the curved arrow, which means “back”, or “go back”. There is a corresponding “back” button on the steering wheel - a quick, single press of that button will dismiss the reminder.

Thanks, yes the picture quoted is very similar to the low-fuel notice I get on my 3rd gen. Though that one doesn't go away without pressing the back button as you describe.

It's helpful to know the PKSB alert does self-dismiss - sounds like minimal annoyance level (beyond the WTF of how Toyota engineers didn't think to account for people using hitch mounted bike racks)

I appreciate the help, folks.

@bitflogger @Burgi did you have to get a different hitch pin from 1up to accommodate the wider receiver on the 2024 tacoma? Thanks
Running into the same issue. The locking pin worked on my 5th gen 4Runner but this receiver is too wide.

Did some research on Reddit and apparently new tundras have the same issue.

Either 260034 or 260027 should work if you follow the link below. And you can use your existing lock.

I just looked through my menus and I don't see PKSD anywhere. I have a non premium TRD Sport.
Not all trucks have the safety feature...
Does your truck have the obvious color matched back-up sensors built into the rear bumper?
There the size of a quarter.....

Im guessing you dont......
If you dont, you dont have the same technology integrated into your truck as the OP does...
The bike wont interfere, cuz you dont have the tech....

Following up to the @ mention way back and the electronics.....

I consider the 1Up key my security for knowing a thief is going to get their way if they try.

The PKSB disable isn't any worse meaning annoying than when you are towing a trailer and the vehicle does it automatically. Unlike a trailer, disabling PKSB still gives you lane departure warning and assist.

I smile for @mikeymtbs and @Burgi posts on the rack age. My 1Up is starting its 14th year and has stood up to winter use with salted roads. If one rides often, it is this simple. Friends only let friends buy 1Up. The way my 1Up has stood up and lasted needs a rule that you look in the mirror and call yourself an idiot when you choose something else. On Sunday friend joined us finally getting it. He once thought us the fools but admitted he's had two typical steel and plastic craptacular racks in the same time frame, and the current one he has no longer has parts available.

Question on that as a 3rd gen owner probably buying a 4th gen sometime.

Would an empty 1UP single tray require disabling PKSB, or is it only needed when there's a bicycle loaded?

I typically leave my rack on the truck as I use the rack a couple times a week. Curious if I'd be keeping PKSB disabled 100% of the time or just when I had a bicycle loaded.

Yep. When my truck was rear-ended my single was folded up. Trays were fine, the hitch bar with side plates took the damage. Replaced that component put it back in service. (Insurance paid out cost of a replacement rack, so I was able to use the difference for another add-on)

It is as other vehicles with ADAS systems applied to the rear where they know the rack is there no mater what. My wife's German car has an instant bypass switch I thought superior at first, but it also disables the camera. When the rack is on I leave PKSB off and that's how any trailer towing is.

A friend has similar experience. Sooner than expected his insurance company issued a check for a 1Up replacement. The 1Up folks sold him just the parts damaged so he came out ahead.

@bitflogger thanks for the info. A dash button would be nice provided it didn't turn off the camera (?!?!).

I do find it surprising that Toyota - a company from a nation in which bicycling is extremely popular - wouldn't think to program the system to ignore an empty bicycle rack.

I will say that Farmer's was pretty good in handling things. Of course they would get every 💵 back from the other driver's insurance company, so they didn't have reason to be stingy.
