Guys, this is a relatively easy fix. I had this issue on my '23 Taco and I noticed it on the '25 that I plan to get tomorrow.

I believe the side to side play is an excessive tolerance. I resolved this by adding opening the gate halfway to the point where it can be removed. NOTE: put towels on bumper as a cushion for tailgate if it slips.... and have a helper). Then partially remove tailgate enough to slip a washer inside the pivot cup on the left side(pic below). This alone will remove some of the side to side play. If you feel you need to add to the right side is the side then you'll need a plate that is shaped more like 2nd pic below. Add thicker washers/spacers as needed to achieve the desired gap.

EDITED: Edited to say "refer to next post if you have the power tailgate".

Update to my post above. The power tailgate doesn't seem to be easy to move or get to shift to center. I took delivery of a '25 TRD OR today and the power tailgate is shifted toward the passenger side pretty bad. Everything else on the truck looks great so I'm hoping there is a fix for this. The power tailgate doesn't seem to be a simple "tip up to 45 deg and remove".
