Hi, I joined this forum because I just ordered a Tacoma last Friday. I ordered an Off Road in Ice Cap with the premium package.

I'm wondering if the new Tariffs will effect my deal. There was a clause in the paperwork that said they can change the price and I have the option to opt out, but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.

I read the post on how allocations work, but does anybody have insight into whether the dealer had to order the truck from Mexico or is there a stockpile of trucks stateside that they pull from?

I'm really excited about this truck. It'll be my 4th, starting as a kid in the 80s with a 1982 Diesel longbed. At 16, I worked as a gofer on a construction site and ran out of diesel. One of the graybeards on the site dumped a few gallons of kerosene in my tank and after that I was sold on these amazing trucks.

We really don't know how this is going to shake out yet. Some auto analysts say that the costs from the Mexican tariffs will be spread out over a car maker's whole lineup, no matter where they were made. If that is true then there will be increases on Tacomas but not as large as 25%. But cars and trucks which are already very expensive will be going up in price, particularly if tariffs are applied to all imported automotive products, not just those from Canada and Mexico.

Hopefully your truck will still cost what you were quoted, but as you pointed out there is language that lets them raise the price. Let us know how this goes for you.

I believe the tariff is applied on the date it crosses the boarder not the date it is ordered. Mine is in Texas as of Saturday so I am good unless they try to play games with me

I put a deposit down In February for a Tacoma TRD Pro coming in at the end of April and the dealer guaranteed me today my price will NOT go up.

It sounds like you are fine, but I think that at some point Toyota will raise prices and future buyers will be paying more. It's hard to say how much more, but price increases are certain, because I don't expect Toyota to cover this, but for it to be passed on to buyers. I guess we won't know for sure until it happens.

Although I don't know how Toyota or dealers will handle this, I would expect that any price increases due to the tariffs will be reflected in new MSRPs before buyers ever commit to a sale.

That's what happened with washing machines when they were tariffed. Prices on dryers increased too, even though there were no tariffs there.

Honda already announced this week that they will begin building cars in Indiana instead of Mexico. So maybe "T's plan is working. In the future, you may be building your own Tacoma in a plant near you!

That US manufacturers raise their prices is the entire point of tariffs. They artificially raise the cost of items so that the domestic manufacturers can compete AND make a profit. They are a response to a country that floods a foreign market with low priced items in an effort to put the domestic manufacturers out of business. If they are allowed to be successful, the exporting country eliminates their competition and can set prices at whatever they want, ie whatever the market will bear.

The 100% tariff on BYD to protect domestic EV production is a perfect example of a defensive tariff.

Personally, I think few people actually need that 90k full size suv as it's not exactly a staple item, so I think the actual harm will be limited.

Wow - are you saying 4th gens are low priced? After all that is what this thread is about, how a 25% tariff will affect Tacomas.

If so, that is the very first time I have heard anyone suggest that. Everytime I visit YouTube I am told how overpriced they are. lol

Heck no! lol, but everything is relative, right? It's clear that Toyota believes it's priced right, but with all the discounts needed to sell them, the market doesn't agree.

But, at a different price point, they could be manufactured in the USA, like they used to be. That's the type of action tariff's support.

Of course, Lil K would make a sky is falling video about the price of a stick of gum...
