Bingo for me!
Although I'll always be a little jealous of that locking diff & crawl control. Just not needed for me and my light off roading.
Crawl control is your right foot + 4Lo to be honest.

As far as locking diffs go, since all Tacomas get A-TRAC, they're not as relevant as they were before. Also aftermarket air lockers will allow you to lock the diff in 2Hi/4Hi unlike the factory elocker.

What I don't understand is why Toyota only offer a rear locker and not a option to completely lock up both.
This will be one more thing Toyota droped the ball on, planning on using my twin ARB compressor with a solenoid to fix 🫩

CVs are pretty fragile tbh front locker is an easy way to break stuff

I guess if you ride around on trails with spare axles sure lol

You know what, I appreciate this comment !
I was just regurgitating stuff I read if I'm being honest šŸ˜‚
Never had that stuff on my older trucks. We had crawl control on my wife's last jeep and never used it either.

LOW TRIM GANG! ✊

I'm not entirely sure who crawl control is for. I think there's a little bit of skill involved in not spinning tires up tricky climbs, and that's ok.

Offroad driving doesn't have to be accessible to everyone...

I for sure know I wouldn't want to let the truck crawl up stuff because I want control when offroad. Going feet off pedals offroad would feel wrong.

Yes, the more weight you add the worse it gets.
Honestly, the money I threw away on the so called, overrated TRD OR, suspension package, and gadgets, I would have been better off buying a SR5, and build it like I have done. The money I would have saved on the sale, I would have enough money šŸ’° to literally buy the Portals I am saving for now.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT. Hindsight is always a hard pill to swallow.
When you get your portals installed, I’d love to see the results!

Check out Mountain Yotas YouTube channel if you haven’t already discovered them. They run a lot of portals.

I would love it if they came out with a trail edition 4g. I almost bought a 3g trail edition with the locker. I still think about that truck. Has everything you want and nothing you don’t. I would love to have the upgraded tire and suspension of the trail edition and the locker on my 4g. Although the torque in 4low with this new drive train and the traction control, almost negates the need for a locker. I’ve seen slip tests done by TFL where they put the 4g Tacoma on rollers to simulate a scenario where you would need a locker and the traction control just works its magic and makes it happen almost instantly. Pretty impressive.
What do ya’ll think? Do we still need lockers with the new traction control system on these new tacomas?

I watched the video by Overland Outfitters. Those Bilstein 5100s are impressive.

How do ya’ll think the Bilstein 5100s compare in performance to the stock suspensions on Trail Hunter and TRD Pro?

Check out Mountain Yotas YouTube channel if you haven’t already discovered them. They run a lot of portals.
It's a dream a little dream for now. This is my dream built, and retired at 56 I plan to built her right. I honestly thought I would have it completed in the first year, yet availability of modifications proved to be my nemesis. I, my wife bought the rig for me, to be a daily driver., butt she knows now this is going to be a very expensive toy that I am building to take, wheeling and camping.
This will be the probably the last year that it'll be a daily drive.
I'm building it to break it, so I'm looking at the redesigned 2026 Outback Wilderness to prove itself over the next year before I purchased one..

It's a dream a little dream for now, when I get to that point, i pray by the end of the year, this truck won't be my daily driver anymore.
We're going to see how the new redesign subaru outback wilderness performs before I think of buying one get around.
I'm building the Widow to take it out and break it eventually so I'll need something to drive. šŸ˜…

I've seen some cool SR5s with stock wheels up to 285/70R18 (check out the wheel/tire builds section). I think the OEM SR5 wheels look really cool with an aggressive 285. But 275/70R17 is probably the sweet spot on stock suspension in my opinion.
Our SR5 suspension is the same height as the Off Roads, but just not as good as the OR OEM Bilsteins. The only reason they have the 1" of "lift" is their tires.
You can get some cheap or free Off Road take off suspension on the member marketplace though. Someone in my neck of the woods is selling his for $350.
I got bilstein 5100s to upgrade the SR5 shocks and to level the truck. Leaps and bounds better IMO and not expensive.

Here are a couple photos as I progressed just for reference:

1. TRD takeoffs with the crappy 265/70R18 OEM tires to on stock suspension
2. Trailhunter wheels with 285/75R18 on stock suspension
3. And now Trailhunter wheels with 265/70R18

What made you decide to go with the Trailhunter 18ā€ wheel and a 265/70, instead of the SR5 stock 17ā€ wheel with 275/70?

Do the Bilstein 5100s level the truck or did you have to do that separately with some other kit?

I just like the trailhunter wheels. Look at them! Dope AF. And ended up being 1/2 the cost of bronze methods.

Bilstein 5100 is all I you need if you keep it under 2": https://www.tacoma4g.com/forum/threads/bilstein-5100s-installed-on-a-2025-sr5-tacoma.18654/

I didn’t read through the whole thread but your stock wheels are 17x7 and will accept a 265 tire fine. I’m not a huge fan of that width on a 7ā€ wheel just because it’s at the very narrowest end of the range for the tire’s recommended wheel width. Makes for a very tucked tire, but it would work fine.

Personally I think a 255 like 255/75R17 or 255/80R17 would be a better choice. Both of those sizes are actually industry measured on 7ā€ wheels, so they’re kind of the ā€œperfectā€ size for the stock wheels if you keep the stock wheels. Same for 245/70 and 245/75.

I was going to do one of the 255s on my stock SR wheels (same wheel) but ultimately decided to pick up a set of 17ā€ offroad wheels and went with 265/70 on those. Being 7.5ā€ the 265 tires fit them a bit better in my opinion.

I thought about the 255/75 & 80, but all those tires that I looked at were either C or E rated heavy duty truck tires and I’m worried how that would effect my ride quality, daily driving. And then are they significantly weightier than a normal tire? Do you know anyone who’s done this to their Tacoma? I wonder if you would still have full articulation of your suspension?
