I have a 2024 TRD Sport with stock wheels and Michelin Primacy tires. I bought a stock wheel off of eBay and a Michelin Primacy tire from Tire Rack to be mounted to use as my spare instead of the generic one they give you. Does the original spare have a TPMS valve? If so, can it be transferred to my new rim and will it interact with the truck TPMS readout if I have to use the spare?

Yeah, no TPMS in the spare, I'm sure you can purchase one, but I don't have a clue how you could enter into the TPMS system. It would be nice to be able to rotate the spare with the other tires and get more mileage from a set of tires.

I ran into this situation when I had Toyota put new wheels and tires on my truck. I wanted to keep the original set of TPMS that came in the tires of the truck because I'm going to stud them.
Toyota gladly gave me a deal on a set of 5, because I wanted one in my spare as well. My plan was to do the same when I rotate my tires I'll rotate my spare in the mix to get more mileage.
I think I paied around a $150 a piece for them. But don't quote me.

So, how does the spare TPMS interact in the system (when it’s just sitting under the truck)? Do you end up with readings from five tires instead of four?

Any part direct from Toyota dealer is a complete rip-off. You could have gotten OE TPMS from here for $60 each (Pacific T6 or Denso 550-0106 same part). Reputable aftermarket $150 set. Same brand used in all OE European cars. I think as well last time I got some for a Camry they had 5% off.

Your absolutely correct. As I stated, I think I paid around a $150 apiece.
Looking at my invoice, I see that I paid a $150 a pair.
I should wake up before I post..

Since you kept the 4 original TPMS's, then purchased 5 more, I assume you now have 9 TPMS's registered to your Tacoma?

Once you initiate the relearn via the truck it will only read the 4 that are rolling. It does not show or read the 5th until it is put in rotation and the relearn has been done.

I have my spare mounted on the rear bumper on an OEM rim. I asked about a 5th TPMS sensor, and if 5 sensors could be programmed into the truck. I was told no. I went into setting and noticed I could manually enter the codes for each TPMS. So, in theory, I could have a sensor installed into the 5th wheel, then manually tell the truck it's on a rotating wheel when I rotate the tires.

It is way simpler then that. Just have the 5 TPMS in your wheels. When you rotate your tires go into your screen and initiate the relearn, drive. Done. There is no manually inputted anything. All new Toyota's now have auto relearn and do not take a OBD tool any longer to do relearns.

I will look into this. When I was in settings I did not see that option. I wasn't using an OBD reader to look at this. It was through the settings on the steering wheel and display

To clarify, when this "relearn" is user activated, does the truck simply determine the (new) location of the TPMS's that were previously programmed to the truck?

Or . . . will this relearn function enable the truck to recognize *any* compatible TPMS installed on the truck, and its axle location---no programming of any kind required?

Any compatible sensors. Install them, inflate to door placard and start the relearn via the truck menu.
