What a gross mislabel. Sound dampening, ok. Sound PROOF? By definition that would imply I can't hear the engine at all after installating.

I bought for a few reasons ....

- Protect the bottom side of the hood from spatters, Belt slung fluids, grease, etc. IT would be a bitch to have to clean the under side of the hood it if it gets sprayed with a leaking fluid in under the hood and dripping from all the holes.
- Some times the top of hood paints get heat damaged and discolor etc.
- Looks better IMO
- Easy to add / remove and replace as needed ...
- Might help with some noise. The normal engine sounds are fine - sometimes the tires/road noise filter into the cab - and I thought this may help dampen the vibs/noise.

JMO. Mine will be delivered Monday. From past install comments I'm going to install the rearm center most attachment points as they can be a bear if the last ones to install.....

I installed the mat this week. I didn't change the before/after decibel level inside the cabin when idling but it did cut down the injector noises.

I would recommend and the install was easy peasy.

Mine arrived today with 14.5 sets of the plastic fasteners (you need 13). Super easy to install, but I was a bit confused by the fasteners because it turns out you do NOT use a screwdriver even though the inner plastic bolt has a Phillips head. Just slightly insert the bolt into the mushroom (?) clip, then push the mushroom through the mat and into the hole in the hood, then push the bolt the rest of the way in to lock it. It does not screw in, you simply force it after the mushroom and mat are in place. Before you put the mushroom into the hold, do not insert the bolt so far that the tips start to spread out: you need them tightly closed to go through the hole in the steel.

OK ! It's in !!! Easy - but if you hurry it can be a pain. I Like it !!! Still need to see if reduces noise - but I did not think the engine noise was that bad / loud anyway - maybe it will reduce the front Tire noise.

What I Did - based on earlier comments.

- Propped up the hood and put a large blanket over the Engine / fenders / front. This to catch parts if I drop them and protect the paint from "ME".
- I put it on alone. So I found a sturdy empty cardboard box and taped it closed - about 1- 1/4 foot cube or a little larger. I then placed it on the top of the engine on/over the blanket towards the Hood back so I was only an inch from the metal hood at the rear.
- I slid the Mat into approx. position and then pushed the box back farther - to pin the mat to the hood underside in close approximate position.
- I pre assembled the provided retainers - the pins I just barely pushed into the collars provided - then I installed two fasteners in the front most corners - finding the hole alignment with a small round stick ( don't poke it too far into the metal hole or you will hit /damage the hood topside ! ). I left the retainers slightly not fully seated to help let me adjust the mat position while I put in all the retainers - Except the back most middle fastener. Before I did this one last I used the Box I made slightly jam in between the blanket on the Engine top and rear middle bottom of the mat. This was to PUSH the mat close to/against the hood underside. Then I used my stick to find/align the hole - an then added the final 13th fastener. I'm tall, but for that last middle back hole I needed to stand on a small stool at the Right front tire side to reach in...
- Re check and be sure all fasteners are fully seated.

- Enjoy !!

The Material is a close match to the Inner fender liners in the Tacoma ....
