I was perusing the Toyota website and saw that the Tacoma spec page (https://www.toyota.com/tacoma/features/mpg_other_price/7598/7536/7534) was updated with weights and capacities for the hybrid models. Most of the first drive reviews showed the door sticker stating ~1200lbs payload for all models. I'm not sure why they chose to put that number on the door but I think that sticker can effectively be ignored just like in the non-hybrids. I decided to put the information into one table for easy comparison. To keep things simple I only compared the 4x4 AT 5' bed models.

Some observations I noticed:

- iForce Max hybrid adds about 450lbs but raises GVWR by about 500lbs. I wonder how much of the hybrid performance is negated by the increase in weight.
-Trailhunter is chunky at 5360lbs! All those ARB accessories add up quick but still plenty of payload to add more. (Ranger Raptor is 5325 and ZR2 Bison is 5265)
-TRD Pro is 260lbs lighter than the TH which should have a noticeable effect on handling and acceleration. It also boasts the second highest payload.
-The limited hybrid is 70lbs more than the Pro, that doesn't seem quite right.
-TRD OR Hybrid boasts 1705 of payload but is somehow 15lbs lighter than the sport hybrid. The non-hybrid OR is 55lbs heavier than the sport.

What are your thoughts?

Could be the center locking differential and FT-AWD coupled with the the powered running boards, as @TacomaTrdPro said, bringing up the weight.

This is a relief. Why on earth does the manual not only list lower numbers, but actually lists the Trailhunter as having higher payload than the other models when it's actually the lowest? Weird, but good to see payload numbers much more in line with what was initially claimed. Nice to see a happy ending for #payloadgate.

Its not the lowest.

All the hybrids have similar starting payload. The trailhunter has rails, underbody protection, etc that decreases it to ~1400ish from the original ~1700ish.

That sport rack has got to weigh about 100 lbs, so there’s some easy payload to reclaim by removing that.

I understand why it's the lowest, but it's still the lowest of the hybrids, which is inverse of what the manual says (that the Trailhunter has a slightly higher payload than the other hybrids). Just commenting on how off what's printed in the manual is, not complaining. I'm happy with 1475 with rock rails, armor, etc already installed. Basically Tundra level.

SO stoked to see this Toyota!

A better payload than the 3rd gen trucks AFTER the steel is bolted on. That's a big deal!
A front bumper and winch will take some away still, but skids, sliders, rear bumper, snorkel, inverter are all heavy. Not to mention if the bed rack is standard, that will free up weight when its removed as well.

I will have one of those for sale in the next few months.

Silly question maybe but … does that curb weight spec include a full tank of gas or just the regular operating fluids like coolant etc.

1475 is good enough for me. Figure 350 for a super pacific or gofast cap and got the rest of it for my fat ass and gear.

Canadian hybrid specs show different payloads and curb weights, CDN Trailhunter has the roof rack as standard which adds weight.

How much weight you think you'd get back from a rear seat delete in the th? and/or swapping the steel armor for aluminum like the TRD Pro?

the payload stickers on real truck are not matching the toyota stated payload. for example, the hybrid OR has a sticker for 1200 lbs but an advertised payload of 1705. is the 1200 because of the tires it shipped with and the 1705 what the suspension could carry?
