Thinking about putting in a dash cam and would like a rear cam to go with it. FITCAMX looks like what I want but the rear cam mounts in the rear window and I have a topper which would block the view. Anyone know of any camera systems that mount to the tailgate?

I'd buy a longer cable and figure out how to route it out of the cab into the bed and mount it on the inside of the topper glass, I don't think dashcams are weatherproof to be mounted outside the vehicle

My truck has a backup cam in the tailgate handle. I don't know if you can upgrade your truck or not. I paid around $300 for a tailgate harness and a camera. But, I was relocating mine because the tire swing-out on the bumper blocked the camera.

Here's an example of why we buy dash cams. This was on an interstate in South Carolina last month. No damage to my truck.

I wish there was something that would utilize the 5 cameras the truck has.
I’ve been thinking of this of this for quite sometime with so much technology and no one has come up with a way to have the factory camera record, being they are already installed. That would be a game changer.

so far, no one has been able to figure out whether the graphical processing for the cameras is its own ECU, or is all processed within the 14" display screen itself. knowing that, someone savvy in that space could create a "T" or "Y" connection cable that uses factory harness plugs to be in-line on the feeds and pull their own recording. This is something i would buy into where you hide a large SD card in the glovebox or under the passenger side and it pulls a 'dashcam' but in a security setup of all cameras views at any given time.

Correct. Tesla's camera system records all cameras on a full time loop anytime the vehicle is running. They also include an optional mode (called "sentry mode") in which motion sensors are used to activate the camera system and record anytime motion or impact is detected (think how Ring or other motion based security cameras work).

It's not hard to do, it has some cost, but it also has to have a willingness from the manufacturer. or a savvy enough aftermarket person. But any option that doesn't in-line plug is out in my books. There is just no reason to need to tap/splice wires these days anymore. Even things like headlights don't need a tap, and can be done with proper plug "Y"s to be clean, secure, and reversible.
