Just replaced mine. If you disconnect the mass air sensor it’s super simple and quick.

The new filter only had a tiny bit of oil on it. I was tempted to add more, but I didn’t wanna mess with the OEM spec.
Not sure why unplugging the MAF would make it easier, it doesn’t interfere with anything, the process still sucks, here’s before and after 21k

If you don’t unplug it, you cannot pry the filter housing apart by more than 2 inches. If you unplug it, it comes right open and it doesn’t suck at all. It’s super easy.

Not really a fan of how much oil comes on the filter from the factory holy hell, it’s like they sprayed it inside and out, won’t be putting that much oil back on next time

Mine was almost dry! I had to touch the rubber part to really makes sure it had some oil on it. On the filter I could not feel any oil at all - but it was red so I guess it was oiled?

Yeah I washed all the red out of the pleats like I normally would with any filter like a foam motocross filter or a random k&n, I couldn’t believe the amount of oil floating inside when I was spraying the dirt out, I’ll let it sit out for a week or more to dry and I’ll oil only the outside

Oh - yeah - the filter in my truck was covered in oil like yours. The OEM replacement had a very light amount. So light that I wasn’t sure if I should add more.

They probably had to remedy the amount of oil at some point because of the failing MAF’s on TH’s, I sprayed cleaner on my MAF for good measure when I swapped, the oil is to keep moisture out, and maybe catch the dirt too I’m sure it’s oiled enough to perform as it should

just looked at your pic, it looks the same as mine, it’s good
