Installing the Landcruiser Skid Plate on an SR5

First you need the skid plate (PT228-60242). And then you'll need to order a crossmember if you have a lower trim (SR, SR5, Sport, or the shiney one). I chose the RCI crossmember.
Install the front crossmember as shown below and then tighten it down underneath your front tow hooks to 75#. Loosely install the the two bolts that correspond to the larger mounting point cutouts on the skid so you can hang the plate while installing and tightening the rest of the bolts. Install the remaining 4 bolts. The 4 rear bolts are then tightened to 27# while RCI says the aftermarket crossmember bolts should be hand tightened.

And that's it! Enjoying being awesome.

Front crossmember installed beneath tow hooks torqued to 75#

Loosely install 2 mounting bolts to hold the skid plate

Skid plate can now hang while you install the remaining bolts

Tighten all 6 bolts. Rear 4 to 27#, front RCI crossmember bolts handtight

Now you are super cool.

That’s awesome dude. Did you have this when u installed the RCI piece with the tow hooks where it didn’t sit flush, even when you cranked down on it? (Notice the slight wave in the crossmember)

Yes I did ! I wonder if this is RCI specific with their design ? Or if anyone has this with the factory hooks and factory crossmember ?

I went back and forth between brands and then victory put theirs on sale for 20% off the day I got this one lol I had been looking at those skids since I brought the truck home

Ok yeah. Mine are like that on both sides also. Good to know it wasn’t a “me issue” only. I was a little concerned at first but figured I’m not gonna be hanging the truck by those hooks so it’s probably ok.

To be honest, it might not be a problem but I'm not sure if I'd be comfortable yanking on the tow hook if it's crooked on the bolts.

Not sure if washers are the fix, probably shouldn't move the hook further from the frame and reduce the threads it has contact on.

It's such a small gap, I'm sure it's fine. Torqued down to 75# just fine. I'll be honest, the front hooks are pretty much just looks for me anyways as my wife said when I I was buying stuff "You really think you're gonna take your shiney new truck off roading ?... Over big rocks and shit ?" Hey hey hey lady...

Looks like the crossmember is designed to fit perfectly with that stock black hook though!

The OEM cross member does not come that close to the mount point.

Yea, that looks like a nice, secure fit. I wonder of any other aftermarket crossmembers do a better job ?

Personally I'd rather have a skid that's easy to drop than those with access ports. It takes less than a minute to drop this and, for me anyways, I think it's a good habit to take a quick look underneath at oil change intervals.
