I’m just curious if anyone has tried to sell or trade their 4th gen and what kind of numbers you are seeing?

I happened to come across a Landcruiser with exactly the options I would want and not loaded with a bunch of extras that I don’t, so I decided to look into it. I’m used to getting an initial low ball offer on trades, but this one left me a little shocked. I have a 2024 TRD Sport Hybrid 4x4 loaded with about 24,000 miles and they offered $39k. The truck had an MSRP over $58k, so that’s a huge drop compared to my prior Tacomas. I pushed back, but they wouldn’t budge.

At that point I was curious if that was really all-in or they just didn’t want to deal. So I checked another dealer and that one came
back with $37k.

So now I figured I’d see anyone else had numbers to share because I’m genuinely curious. If these numbers are typical, then my Tacoma has lost, at best, 33% of its initial MSRP. That’s exactly what % my 2020 lost after nearly 5 years 69,000 miles. Fortunately, I really like my truck, so it’s not hurting me either way, but it definitely has me a little shook. So what are you guys seeing when checking trade or resale values? Similar drops or holding better in your area?

I have a 24 limited with 15,500 miles. I paid $52,000 for it. So to lose 10k after 2 years doesnt seem bad to me. Also the first couple of years see the worst hit to resale.

That's wild. I just traded in my 2024 Land Cruiser to get this taco and only lost $2k on it, or gained if you consider the large discount I got on the rarely discounted (out here, at least) Trailhunter

I would never just toss money away trading in to a dealer, but my private party is value is holding steady. Bought for $37,885 / $41,897 OTD in November. Hasn't changed much.

I bought used with 3500 miles, 2025 Hybrid, TRD Offroad w/ Premium, Package
Technology Towing Package, Factory 2.5” lift, TRD pro exhaust, Tonneau bed cover, Predator steps, Rigid fog lights, Rear bed step, Spray in bed liner, OEM Rubber bed mat, Red ARB front tow hooks (none on rear), for 48k. Probably could’ve got price down to 45k.

My dealer serviced my truck and keeps making an offer to buy. I have 7300 miles on my SR extended cab 4x4 and they offered $28k. Not even considering it.

Put your vin into Carvana and see what it comes back. Sounds about right. I did with ours and it was about that. It isn’t Covid times where supply is limited driving up used prices. The market is flooded with cars now. Way too many deals to be had hence driving used car prices down.

We've been shopping extensively helping our daughter, and from my wife's interests. That's used for one, new for the other. What is really obvious visually, and from mouths of dealer staff is a whole lot of inventory and sales not strong across all segments.

On Saturday when our not for sale or trade Tacoma was what we drove, it was interesting to have a dealer with used gen 4 short bed Sport and a TRD Pro right there say he wished they were my long bed TRD OR so the market might be fickle. Yesterday a used lot sales manager said he can't get enough good practical vehicles < $25,000, and that the typical of many always after things they probably can't really afford.

A near universal truth also seems true in the shopping we're doing. Luxury, high trim and some special edition vehicles depreciating more.

$39k is strong at the moment.

Oof. That just seems like a crazy drop for a Tacoma. I've had five of them and they held their value so well, this is a bit of a shock. I know they are producing more, but they produced a lot of 3rd gens too. I wonder if vehicle prices are hitting a ceiling and dealers are having to discount more to make sales, both new and used.

I'd feel a little better about that. Still, I paid $39k for my 2020 and got a little over $30k in trade after nearly 5 years and 69,000 miles. Changing times I guess.

100% believe that about the Land Cruiser. New and used prices on those are within a couple thousand dollars.

I know it was a different time, but 58k seems high for a Sport, regardless of Hybrid or not..

Here when you trade, it lowers the taxes you pay on a vehicle. For example I was offered $44,000 trade value on a 55,000 TRD OFF ROAD 6’ bed. So I’d only pay taxes on $11,000.
So in effect I’m getting 44k + 12% =49.28 K
My truck was 54,785 + 12% =61,359.2

So it’s depreciated 61359-49,280=12,079 or
about 19.25%. Call it 20% on 2024 OR with 29,000 km.

I guess that makes sense for certain people. It's still a $3k to $5k difference with my truck which I'm not will to give to a dealer just for convenience. I hate those guys.

That's closer to what I would expect from a Tacoma. Seems like the higher TRD trims with the premium options are the ones taking the biggest hit. Looks like your SR5 is holding steady. I've looked at selling with some of my prior vehicles, but then the additional tax hit of not having that trade made it close enough that I've just gone that route.

I bought used with 3500 miles, 2025 Hybrid, TRD Offroad w/ Premium, Package

Sounds like a great deal. Though, that means my trade offer might not be that far off, given the usual mark up that I see when they go to sell it. My wife likes the new 4Runners, so we may give it a year or so try to catch one like this. Practically new without the depreciation hit right off the bat.

My dealer serviced my truck and keeps making an offer to buy. I have 7300 miles on my SR extended cab 4x4 and they offered $28k. Not even considering it.
What was the original price on the SR?

31999 but out the door was $38 cash.
