One of the first things I did was get rid of the factory tires and install 10-ply LTs that were the same size and then I added my Smartcap, which is about 170 pounds. The last thing I want is a flat with a 4-ply.
I get 22-23 MPG on the highway, but I drive like an old guy.

I frequently off-road in the middle of Idaho and have had all four generations of Tacomas. I have never heard of a bed "tearing apart" other than from hauling motorcycles that were improperly strapped down. Certainly, none of mine has been damaged.
Where did you come up with that? If an auto maker's engines were blowing at 60,000 miles, who would buy?
I've changed my oil twice and can't imagine attempting to pre-fill the filter before installing it. In truth, I suspect once you add the oil, the filter is full.
