2024 Tacoma maintenance question: "top engine cleaning" ?

The dealer I use for warranty work on my 2924 sport 4x4 said I need a "top engine cleaning" f0e $179. I do not find this in the Toyota maintence. Is this legit or just something the dealer wants to charge for. My gas mileage is the best its ever I dont want to affect that. Mileage is 30m miles

I would deny that service, who knows what additives they're gonna dump in there. Also there's no documented cases of carbon buildup on the T24A FTS anyways (which is unlikely due to the port injectors).

Our dealer does that all the time. Not much labor, and doesn't cost the dealer much. Good gasoline is designed to do that.

Top Tier does work, especially with port injectors.

Agreed. Top Tier fuel all the time will keep things clean. Exxon, Shell, and Chevron. Look for the Top Tier sticker on the pump. Get the Top Tier app and learn where to get your fuel. It makes a difference in the long run.

It’s just as wasteful as an extended warranty—one of those upsells that keeps dealership profit margins nice and healthy.

So to recap, it is not the health of the vehicle as much as the health of padding their wallets.

It is unfortunate that there are many Dealerships that have no conscious.
