In my opinion and experience in owning several turbo and supercharged vehicles, having real and reliable gauges that go beyond the OEM ones are a must.

As I waited for my truck to deliver, I weighed the pro and con of the Scangauge III and the iDash and hands down, iDash is simply *the* way to go on these trucks. With the app it is super fast and easy to program and re-program any and all PID's into one of 5 different gauge readouts. Install was super easy and it is really clean in the gauge pod out of the way.

My only regret is not coughing up the extra coin for the data logging version since OTT is now talking about partnering with Banks and would logically use that feature for remote tuning adjustments.

Problem I see with the iDash is it only displays the 2.4 L engine. Not the Hybrid version. And I have a problem with a device that says it can display speed and velocity as velocity requires a direction..

The Epa tests all vehicles via a simulated drive in a closed testing cell on a rolling road similar to a dynamometer. You can look up testing criteria and conditions, but they do test in all drive modes. Manufacturers cannot bypass or go outside of epa parameters with a tune or drive mode of any kind. That's what got Volkswagen in trouble.

That is not a thermostat and infact has zero temperature regulation. The coolant in a radiator is not controlled in any way. Yes, it was designed to help heat transmission fluid and cool it but there was no control. The engine thermostat only controls temperature inside the engine itself and any coolant in the radiator can vary wildly based on driving conditions and ambient temperatures. It is entirely possible and common for transmissions cooled in that way to never reach operating temperatures in colder weather.

The whole point of the transmission thermostat is to put as much heat as quickly as possible into the transmission after start up. A side effect is it is a restriction and never let's the fluid drop below its set temp. Which could help overall temperature averages in driving conditions where a large swing would be present. I.e. Trail driving with steep grades and long down hill sections.
Hi will,

I think the real problem is two fold, a factory generic scale on the dash keeping the customer guessing as to what the actual temperature is other than it looks really high. The other issue is frequent elevated transmission temp and shifting issues. Owning a new vehicle should not be this difficult and having to worry about this stuff. This why it is so important for the manufacturer to do their durability and operation testing under real world applications. Not sending a product out to market and let service centers and toyota to come up with fixes after the fact.

Originally I was impressed that toyota had the actual engineering team presenting the new iteration of their tacoma project. This implies they stand behind their design and testing. Unfortunately it was a sales pitch mirage of their tacoma team dropping the program like a hot potato. The mentality was don't walk but run away from this abomination they put into production. Let the consumer find their screw ups and pretend or not care if it impacts toyotas reputation. Completely inexcusable a d frankly disgusting to say the least.

Do better Sheldon Brown and Toyota North America!

Ive been eyeing various guages like the idash myself. I was actually impressed by the guages Toyota provided in these trucks. Dummy and outright fake guages have been the norm for decades. Ford for instance was notorious for fake oil pressure guages in their trucks, which only requires around 10 psi to put the guage in the "normal" range.

But I still prefer hard numbers vs the vague guages we have. Id also like more customization in the cluster. Plus, I don't care for the aftermarket guages just hanging off of pillars or suction cups and the rest of that nonsense. Id love it if a company did customizable gui flashes on the cluster. Adding numeric scales to the guages along with style and color changes. I posted it before in another thread, but imagine if you could have a cluster that mimicked a Haltech cluster in a bronze oxide truck:
