Looking for suggestions to relocate my factory back up camera currently installed near the tailgate handle.

I have a swing out with my rear tire and I would like to use factory camera in a different location.

NOT looking for a rear view mirror camera. Prefer the camera to still work with the infotainment screen. Maybe a kit to install it on the upper cross bar of the bed rack?

Any Suggestions?

Thanks!
Jason

Good luck. I've been searching for a solution for 3 months. There is one company that claims they have a solution, but it's not available yet with no ETA. I have the same issue as you. That company is https://www.ggoffroad.com/

I did acquire from Toyota a tailgate harness and second camera. I teased out the camera harness and temporarily mounted the camera on the bumper (red circle in pic). It's a horrible location, but for now it's at least something. I'm working on another solution. The issue is the harness wire is stupid short. Note that I lost the guide lines.

Rear camera: 86790-AK091, $214 list, I paid $153
Tailgate Harness: 82182-AK010, $195 list, I paid $139

I'm trying to do the same thing with an OEM camera and wiring harness I just purchased. How did you mount the camera to the bumper? I am not finding a good bracket for this.

It's just a bubba bolt through the lower hole

I decided to work on this. I had already made a fake license plate that I was going to use to mount the camera. Originally, the top bolt mount on the camera rubbed the bottom of my tailgate when I opened it, so the camera was mounted lower than I liked. I decided to cut off that top tab so I could tuck the camera up a little more. I was able to center the camera to the fake license plate a little higher than it was before. The plate is also spaced out a little bit (just a couple of washers). I think I will make some taller spacers to put behind the plate and get longer bolts.

It's still not great, but the camera view was improved.

I still want to figure out a way to mount the camera to the gas can swing out.

Got motivated today after installing front springs. Decided to keep going and work on the backup camera. I'm very pleased with this solution. I still see a bit of the bumper, but it also shows more of what's behind me.

The fake license plate is spaced from the bumper with 1/4" spacers. I also tipped up the camera. I'll run it for now, and if I'm sure this is the final design I will send the plate off to powder. Probably this winter.

Ya, I know. My welding sucks. At least my life doesn't depend on this.

Hey Jon, Does your safety alert system work properly! I had to turn it off because of my spare tire carrier blocking factory cameraa location, could not back up without constant beeping and auto braking. Thanks!

It works as designed. The swing-outs do not impact the proximity sensors at all. The only exception I had was when I put my Trasharoo on the spare tire. The straps drove my sensors nuts.
