The rails of the lumbar mechanism that carry the vertical adjustments shift forward and back. Unzip the seat cover (first undo the elastic hoops underneath the seat that secure the lower flap) and you’ll find that whole mechanism is loose when you apply some push/pull. I added a 6-7” long piece of thick pvc foam cut to fit between the rails and the plastic frame - where my fingers are. I’ve seen people use wine corks or whatever you have available as long as it is snug enough to eliminate the play. Hope this helps!

Awesome thank you for finding this out! If the dealer doesn’t want to do this on my next service I’ll take matters into my own hands. Doesn’t seem like they have a true fix for this.

Hell yeah man. My guess is they won’t do anything. Took me 10 min to do. Hardest part was undoing the elastic hoops underneath lol. Just so happened to have so leftover foam and it did the trick.

Yeah I’m sure I’ll be doing it. I have taken those hoops off and they are a little annoying lol

Coming back to this thread. Truck is at the dealer since yesterday for the AC chirp TSB and the seat again. He started with stating they’re probably going to swap seats with a new Tacoma then described the sound to me, which I confirmed is what I hear and said that’s “normal” after the seats break in. I disagreed because it’s an unpleasant sound/feel and several friends have the same exact truck 2 years old without the issue. So I’m going there this morning to confirm that the sound and hopefully they’ll still swap it. If the issue occurs with the new seat, I’ll fix it myself.

@Bucky_O what type of foam did you use? Is PVC foam more like a hard foam, molded foam or soft thin foam like what would wrap around packaged items?

This is why I have not taken it to the dealer. Every time I go they treat me like an idiot until I escalate because I’m an attorney. Their Neanderthal techs always break stuff on the interior, leave grease stains, etc and I have to fix it myself. The only time I’ll have them look at the seat is once it’s acknowledged as an issue from corporate. Do what you need to in order to get it addressed. Good luck!

A new one on the showroom has a slight sound but nowhere near where mine is and they acknowledge that. Supervisor is going to ask to swap seats so we'll see if the managers allow it.

I’ll say mine has no sound, or almost none. It’s just constantly shifting forward and backward. I need to do the DIY fix and see if it works. I hope they agree to fix yours and if it is replaced, I’ll be curious if the new one is solid.

Yeah if every single one did it and it was not audible or very noticeable I wouldn’t care. It just does not sound normal. Is yours a manual seat?

No, it’s powered. This is the lumbar moving forward and back inside the lower seat, almost for sure. From what I’ve seen/my memory, the small number of people who have my issue don’t seem to report a lot of noise.

Interesting. Yeah wouldn't hurt bringing it up just so it's more issues recorded. He said that's the best thing to do. If there's enough issues Toyota will eventually do something.
