Looking for some feedback from those who have run the Wildpeak AT4Ws in 275/70R18 on a 4th Gen Tacoma TRD Sport with the factory 18” wheels.

I really like the aggressive look of the tire, and everything I read says they’re excellent in wet weather, which is a big plus. The downside is that the 10-ply version is pretty heavy, and realistically my truck only sees light off-roading, beach driving, and daily driving.

I don’t mind taking a hit in fuel economy if it means getting the look and durability I’m after (especially curbs with the horrible turning radius when I make a U turn, and not have to worry about banging up the rim).

I also wanted to confirm whether the 275/70R18 AT4Ws will fit without rubbing on the factory TRD Sport 18” wheels with stock suspension. I read that a 33 would fit without rubbing, but also read the Wildpeaks run a little larger than others. I’ve seen mixed information online and would love to hear from people actually running this setup.

If you wouldn’t recommend the AT4W in this size, what would you recommend instead? I’m looking for:

33” fitment (275/70R18)
Aggressive appearance
Good wet-weather performance
Mostly daily driving with occasional off-road use
Works on factory 18” wheels
Some of the other tires I’m considering are the Nitto Ridge Grapplers, Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT, or Toyo Open Country A/T III?

Would love to hear what everyone is running and what they’d choose if they were buying today.

I considered them, but the weight! I might regret my SL one day on some back country service road, but I carry a 285/70r17 spare and will cross that bridge if it comes.
Since most my driving is town and highway (minus trips) with a light load, SL were the way to go for me.
I have Nitto G3 in 275/70R18 and they've been great in all weather and the service roads I do. I might try the Toyo Open Country in 285/70R18 E @ 57# if I ever have issues with these, but would 100% buy the G3 again at this point.

I was looking at the G3’s as well. I wish they looked a little more agressive, but I’m sure ride great and will look awesome compared to my current OEM 265/65r18. Appreciate your comment!

I have the Falkens on both my GMC 3500 and my Tacoma. I have 285/70/17 size on my Tacoma and they fit with no issues. They ride fine as far as I can tell and handle wet weather well. I drove the GMC in blizzards and nearly a foot of snow and had no issues.

Upgraded my TRD OR from the factory 17's to a set of OEM TRD PRO 18" wheels. I put on 265/70/18 Bridgestone Dueler Ascent A/T's and they have been GREAT tires. I know they don't get much love here, but they are 5X quieter and ride 10x better then the stock BF Goodrich Trail Terrains. Little over 10,000 miles on them in PA, been through snow, sleet, rain and some light off-roading and they have handled everything with no issues. They look aggressive without looking ridiculous as well. Very happy with these tires, perfect fit with my truck.

I agree that there's no wrong answer if that's what you are looking for (the look of the tire) but as far as need, based on your write-up, it sounds like that'd be real overkill. If you're not doing anything even mildly offroad, SL should be fine. I did Schnebly Hill (rated 4 on OnX) in Sedona in my Nitto Terra Grappler G3s 285/70/r17 tires with stock suspension and it was just fine. Yes, you might sacrifice some sidewall protection, but I think it's a good balance if you want to go on an adventure every once and awhile.

Making me feel good about any of the mild stuff I might do on my SL G3s! 🤘

I also saw those AT III EV tires. What exactly makes them different than the regular AT III?

Pics? I’m considering that size tire

Aerodynamic sidewall as well as some sort of reinforced design that reduces compression with the EV weight and torque of the motor. Supposed to have better rolling resistant to be less of a hit on EV range. Would imagine there are some trade offs for off road use and not sure what that means for longevity. Read more deets from Toyo here.

I was too lazy to research so asked AI, these would be the supposed trade offs, but I would verify:

The Trade-offs

•A Stiffer, Harsher Ride: EV tires are engineered with highly reinforced casings to support massive vehicle weights (often 7,000 to 9,000+ pounds). When placed under a lighter gas truck, the tire carcass will have very little flex. This results in a noticeably stiffer, harsher ride where you will feel small bumps and road imperfections much more intensely.

•Reduced Off-Road Grip: Because the EV version uses a highly rigid tread structure and specialized low-rolling-resistance rubber to maximize battery range, it lacks some of the compliance found in the standard Toyo Open Country A/T III. On dirt, rocks, or mud, the tire won't conform to the terrain as effectively, leading to a slight drop in pure off-road traction.

•Limited Sizing Options: Toyo manufactures the EV variant in a very narrow selection of large-diameter sizes tailored strictly to factory electric truck wheels.

The Only Real Benefits

• A Very Quiet Cabin: Because EVs lack engine noise, tire noise is highly amplified. The EV tire's tread pattern is heavily optimized to suppress road hum, meaning it will provide an exceptionally quiet highway ride on a gas truck.

•A Slight Boost in Fuel Economy: The low rolling resistance and AeroWing™ sidewalls that save battery life will technically translate to a minor increase in miles per gallon (MPG) on a gas engine.

Yep! Exactly:

G3 is the best 18" option for Tacos that are city + gravel trucks that want a little off road capability IMO. Plus I think they look great and not overly "posery"
