Yup. Got that many months ago. Still haven't gotten further communication for a fix.

I just checked the app and I have the recall notice. My truck is a 2024 Sport 4x4 with 18" wheels. Built March 2024.

Last time I was in at the dealer they said that they had finally developed the fix but that it was going to take a while to “make a million of whatever they need to swap out and get everything ready.” I’m not in a rush but would like to get it done before next winter because apparently it’s not just mud but possibly accumulated snow/ice that could cause an issue.

I didn't realize they'd expanded it to 2wd trucks. I just checked my app and sure enough it was there for my RWD SR5. I don't take my truck offroad much other than dirt roads to national park campsites, but I still made the appointment to get it taken care of. Better to have it and not need it, right?

Im happy they are including some 18" wheeled trucks. My winter tires are on 17" OR wheels.

And how does that drain the battery?

Yes, the Toyota app can contribute to battery drain on a Toyota Tacoma (and other Toyota models) due to its background activity, particularly its location tracking. Users have reported the app using a significant portion of their phone's battery, even when not actively in use.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Background Activity:
The Toyota app, like many mobile apps, runs in the background to perform tasks like checking for updates, sending notifications, and accessing location data.

  • Location Tracking:
The app's location services are a major factor in battery drain, as they require continuous communication with GPS satellites.

  • Remote Connect Features:
Features like remote start, lock/unlock, and vehicle finder rely on the app staying connected to the vehicle, which can further contribute to battery consumption.

  • No Need for Continuous Access:
While the app offers valuable functionality, there's generally no need to keep it open or running in the background constantly.

  • Managing Battery Drain:
To mitigate battery drain, consider these steps:
    • Sign out of the app when not in use: This will prevent the app from running in the background.

    • Restrict background activity:In your phone's settings, you can limit the app's access to location services and background data usage.

    • Check battery usage: You can view which apps are consuming the most battery in your phone's settings.

    • Consider alternative apps: If battery drain is a major concern, explore third-party apps that offer similar functionalities with potentially lower battery consumption

    • Google is your friend! Try it

Yep - all true and thanks for the good advice. The app ran down the 12v in my wife's SUV to where its doors wouldn't even unlock and I had to jump it. The factory recommendation was to not stay signed into the app when you are not using it. I need to check the other points you made to see what else might be running down the 12v on her car and on my truck

The app is also very intrusive. Some people don’t care either way but I thought I’d put that out there for people that do.

I don't use the app and I wonder if my truck falls under the recall now. I need to check to see if it does, maybe by visiting the NHTSA website.
