That is when the San Antonio plant supposed to be finished and Taco production coming back to the country.

Questions;

1) Do you think this is when Toyota will release the mid cycle Taco refresh ?
2) However, in the fine print, Toyota is ONLY going to close the Baja plant and the Guanajuato plant will remained open. So, which model(s) Taco gets to be made in San Antonio and which remains in Mexico ?
3) Since the Tundra TRD Pros and Trailhunters are currently made in San Antonio , would make sense that maybe only the Taco TRD Pros and Trailhunters would be made in Texas and other trims remain in Mexico ?
4) If so, would this create a caste system of Taco trims (Mexico vs Texas) in terms of resale and equity value ?

The Baja plant was producing Tacomas long before the San Antonio plant did (the first time) and both plants overlapped production for a few years. There wasn't a caste system then. Having owned Tacomas from California, Texas, Baja and Guanajuato, I'll take a Guanajuato rig over any of them.

Were all the trims back then came from the same factory ? Market perceptions might be different when different trims have different country of origin.

Both my 2010 SR5 (made by UAW in Fremont, Cali) and my 2016 SR (made in Texas) were both the best trucks I ever had.

I do believe my 2005 X-Runner was made in Baja.

My 2024 TRD Sport has had issues.

I would prefer a Texas built as my next Tacoma.

Tundra motors produced in Texas. How did that turn out?
Tundra engines are produced in Alabama and frankly thats probably been a design issue, has it's affected the Japanese built V35s as well.

Neither of my Texas rigs were anything special. Both had bad paint application and lots of squeaks and rattles

They are failing because the of the residue not being flushed out during the manufacturing process. 100% on the workers at the plant. Yes the motor is manufactured in Alabama. My point remains the same however.

That's being proven to not be the cause. Japanese produced V35 engines were failing as far back as 2017. Little was heard about it because it was only used in the Lexus LS600 at the time....a low volume $100k+ vehicle. Once they started placing this engine in mass applications, it finally reared it's ugly head to the public. The V35 has bearing and lower end issues. Why it's gone on this long is inexplicable to me.

The frustrating part is for the hybrid owners who have the exact same motor, but no recall.

idontworkforthewTerco, can explain why you prefer this plant over the others? I’m genuinely interested in knowing as my 2025 trailhunter was assembled there.
Thanks

The first thing I noticed was how flawless the paint application was. World's above my 6 other Tacomas. Not a single seed or crater on any panel. Zero thin areas on the inner doors, door jambs and under the hood. No clear coat pooling on edges. The sealer application and finish are excellent. The exterior panel gaps are perfect. The bed is dead center. And so far the interior is completely devoid of any squeaks and rattles.

None of that could be said for my California, Texas or Baja rigs.

My Guanajuato built 2024 Tacoma has been flawless mechanically but has some quality issues I’d chalk up to Toyota: the paint at inside bottom of tailgate is very thin to not applied over white primer, the left tail light is out 1 cm & dealer has been unable to correct, and lastly cheap plastics inside.
