I completely understand what you’re trying to say. My only issue was using “buy American” as the standard for quality. American companies can certainly make reliable products, but the same is true of manufacturers in many other countries.

I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s and watched the reputation of American-made products begin to decline. For years, cheap imported products were considered the example of poor quality, but companies such as GM, Ford, and Chrysler eventually lowered their own standards as well. Once that happened, “Made in America” was no longer an automatic guarantee of quality.

So I understand the gist of your point. I would simply replace “American” with “quality.” Avoid shady companies and poorly made products, regardless of where they come from.
Edited. Removed "American" for you.

I think the irony is that we're all Tacoma owners. Most of us chose Toyota because of its reputation for quality, not because it was the most American-made truck. That's why I said "quality" is a better standard than "American."

"Buy from an established North American company" is very different than "Buy American made". I wouldn't buy a Toyota if I had to import them from Japan just like I wouldn't buy BYD if I was looking for an all-electric. Toyota has an established American presence; that greatly reduces the headaches with importing, customer service, and support / warranty work. Not to mention Toyota literally has factories on this continent.

From Google Search

Depending on the model year of Tacoma, roughly 30% to 35% of a Toyota Tacoma's parts originate from the United States or Canada. The remaining components are largely sourced from Japan and Mexico. [1, 2]
The parts breakdown can be further detailed by origin:
    • U.S./Canada: 30-35% (including the engine and transmission)
    • Japan & Mexico: 50-65% (such as electrical, metal, and drivetrain components) [1, 2]

All the engines come from Alabama. And those plants listed on the map are just Toyota's major manufacturing plants. It does not include the countless supplier facilities throughout the country.

From Google Search

While the Toyota Tacoma’s engines are assembled at the Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant in Huntsville, Alabama, the individual engine components and parts are sourced globally. Many of these internal engine components, electronics, and sub-assemblies are imported directly from Japan, Mexico, and other countries in Toyota's global supply chain.

I've also heard that the TMMK plant in Kentucky includes a large powertrain facility that supplies certain internal engine components not just to itself but to other Toyota powertrain plants in N. America.

I know the TMMK plant produces the transverse version of the T24 for the many FWD applications. So supplying certain components to Alabama would make sense. That infomation comes directly from an acquaintance who is in management at the Toyota/Mazda plant in Huntsville.
