I'm pretty happy with my SR5. There are a couple things like the fabric under seat storage and fabric engine splash guard that seem a little silly, but it's everything these days. For $37K this truck was a great value. The last new vehicle I bought was an Ioniq 5 (lemoned) and it was close to 50K. Creaky, plastic interior, unreliable. It did have the same range as the Tacoma though 😂
I agree the SR5 is the best value on the Tacoma. As for the Ioniq, in my world no one buys Hyundai or Kia as they have a very bad reputation and most consider them disposable junk cars.
I have an Off Road and yeah that splash guard was a joke for an off road truck, 🤣. It was promptly replaced with a (pricey) TRD aluminum one.

I found the SR5s to be priced pretty poorly when I was shopping last May. They were close to 40k sticker and the SR was 36k without any add-ons.

Probably depends on your area.

I would agree with everyone that my so called premium sound system in my 24 trd or is weak too say the least.
I base this on the sound system, In my wife's 24 crosstrek wilderness.
The premium Harman Kardon sound system blows mine away even at low volumes with mad base. I'd love to steal her sound system and put it in the taco, but I should be glad she bought me the truck to begin with.
I'm more into performance upgrades than musical upgrades.
Thanks for explaining why my system sounds like crap.

Probably ! I'm in Western WA. Off Road was easily $6K to $10K more than my SR5 where I am and I would've replaced the composite skid, wheels, tires, and added the sub, so didn't make sense. I didn't look at the SR though. That might have been the move

In Canada the SR5 is the lowest model. Pretty much has all you need. Upgrades to Sport or Off-road and then the premium trims quickly gets out of control pricewise. It’s the best value for for a pretty well equipped Tacoma.

You left the dealer with a new 4x4 Tacoma for less than 40k so that is doing pretty good no matter what you get tbh.

>$25,000 in 2006 is worth $40,193.70 today

>2006 4x4 Double Cab V6 5-Speed Auto (7594) MSRP* Starting At: $25,115.00 (pre tax/TTL)

But you are getting way more truck, and arguably a better designed truck (aside from muh nostalgia).

Fully boxed frame clears C channel tbh

I run a goose gear rear delete, sub sounds great in my TH, solid state dash speaker is kick ass too. Use that thing everywhere. IDK what they use in the new Lexus GX but I didn’t buy a Lexus, bought a Toyota

Is that a custom box? Nice setup. Always hoped someone would replace the crappy oem sub with something like this.

Yeah custom box. Honestly though if I had known I would have to cut out parts of the seat to get it to clear I probably would have gone a different route. Good thing it’s not a lease I guess.

Pathetic quality and poor engineering is what I see here! Since I drive some gravel...now I'll have to check this for dust entry. And here I thought it was only Dodge that couldn't design proper cab vents...Toyota says hold my beer!...we'll integrate it directly into the subwoofer! Ugh...who tf designed this??

Overall, the more I live with this new Tacoma...the more disappointed I am. Quality is totally sub par (especially to older Toyota's), fuel economy is simply ATROCIOUS, the remote start via fob and app is outright laughable...such a joke, and the infotainment routinely disconnects carplay while driving, switches on it's own between sat radio and carplay, and refuses to connect to my phone most days, especially if you use remote start.

These days...I REALLY miss my 2nd gen Tundra...

Damn dude. To me those are small first world gripes. I absolutely love my SR5. I've had a number of new cars in the last few years: 2022 Wrangler (still have it) 2022 Kona electric, 2022 Bolt EUV, 2023 Ioniq 5... The Tacoma is by far my favorite. It's my favorite of 20+ vehicles I've owned in my life.
You should sell yours though if it's causing you that much disappointment. Life is short and tomorrow isn't guaranteed! Get a vehicle you like.

Not really first world gripes when the truck cost me over 75k...one expects things to work and work well, especially since my previous Tundra was such a gem. I'm getting 14mpg in the winter on the highway...220 miles of range per tank. Most half ton trucks get better! Plus for example, GM/Ford/Ram have remote start that works with a click of a button on the key fob, no pissin around. Why can't Toyota do this?? Just the fuel economy alone, given the small size of the truck...I seriously struggle with what the whole point of a Tacoma is?? Yea...maybe I should sell it. And now that I think about it...when people ask me how I like it...first thing I say is I'm not all that pleased !

Bummed for you, man! I smile everytime I walk out to my truck; it looks so damn good. I get in the driver's seat and it starts right up every single time. Heater is hot. A/C is cold. BANGIN' rockford fosgate sub. 21mpg on the highway. Quiet as an EV at 65mph. Comfy as heck. Gas stations EVERYWHERE down here with not just gas, but delicious snacks. Did I mention how good it looks ?
2024 Tacoma C’mon Toyota, You can do better than this. (OEM factory subwoofer teardown) Tires4

Get yourself something you like in case you draw a crappy hand and get hit with a random widow maker one day. Don't want to be floating up to heaven cursing your hunk of S#*t Tacoma.
