My truck: 2024 Limited Iforcemax, Full-time 4wd, Hybrid
Tune: CAMTuning OTS 91 Reflash

Impressions:

Torque. 1st gear. Rips...That was my initial feelings on the first pull. The low, mid, and top end power is drastically improved over stock. Where the Cobb Tune stops with their OTS tune, CAMTuning expands to the rest of the drivability of this truck. Custom tuning is definitely the way to go if you want to maximize your performance needs for the way you want to drive. And CAMTuning does an excellent job of doing that by providing solutions to the tune you're looking for.

Not only has the power improved, but the transmission has been tuned to improve shifts throughout the rev range. This makes the drivability even better than ever, in pursuit of effortlessness. Over the weekend I spent driving over the Cascades to the Oregon coast and back to Portland and felt like I was driving a much smaller truck with a big displacement motor. The turbo spools much faster and the tuning has improved the way you feel power, immediate, as the boost increases. Unlike other tunes and piggybacks I've tried, they could be a bit peaky in how they make power down low with boost lag until you reach up top at full boost The linear power band is amazing especially for my daily driving duties in the cities where I have to pull out into traffic a lot and dive into open spots in traffic lanes. It feels downright agile and light on it's feet. Out on the open highway i notice the truck rides quieter with less engine vibrations. RPMs stay where you need it to be in depending on what drive mode you select. Power is instant when you need it and it downshifts with less effort. I particularly like driving the truck in ECO mode over the others because the throttle is much more easy to place the power you want. Stock OEM calibration feels lazy in ECO with the foot down but with the CAMTuning Reflash, it's like Dr. Jekyll and Hyde. You get extremely surprised when the power pulls you back in your seat and this is the fuel efficient mode lol. With the dialed back throttle response that provides smooth acceleration in stop and go traffic, combined with the instant Super Saiyan 3 transformation within a second of your foot at full pressure, it's the ultimate sleeper mode. You can ease into the throttle for the best fuel economy with the laid back throttle response but the second you put the hammer down, you're rewarded with linear boost and power delivery. It gives me vibes of my B58 powered GR Supra in the way it makes power.

All in all I'm truly impressed with CAMTuning's OTS 91 Reflash tune. It's exceeded all my expectations where I have had previous disappointments with boost controllers, and other OTS tunes out in the market. If you are on the fence about tuning with COBB Accessport and CAMTuning, just do yourself a favor....Just do it.

Also just wanted to share one of my acceleration runs:

Update: 35 mph- 90 mph run

1/4 mile test added. Forgot the auto brake hold was on so the 60 foot was a couple tenths slower than normal lol. Still, 14 sec range on a stock truck is pretty awesome. Imagine adding more mods. Stock calibration 0-60 was low to mid 7seconds while the 1/4 mile tiimes were low to mid 15second range. This is a huge improvement over stock with a tune from CAMTuning.

Really appreciate you taking the time to write all that up.

I know you were cautious going back into Tacoma tuning, especially after your previous experience, so I don’t take that trust lightly.

These trucks respond extremely well when the torque model is calibrated correctly and the transmission behavior is adjusted to complement it — all while staying within the design intentions of Toyota’s system.

Glad to hear it delivered for you — especially coming from someone who knows what a properly calibrated B58 feels like.

Thanks for the amazing support. I felt like I was dealing with a good buddy I can trust. Put me at ease. Thanks again!

So when I go to get my tune this month, I should ask for the CamTuning Overland Torque tune with 91 Reflash? Is this the same as the OTT tune or this an add-on?

Just to clear up the confusion — CAMTuning and OTT are completely separate companies. They’re not related, and the tunes aren’t stacked or combined in any way.

If you’re working with me, it’s always remote. I ship you a prepared Accessport, you install it, flash the calibration, send me a log, and I review everything personally. From there it’s either:
  • Reflash – calibrated map + log review
  • Custom Tune with Revisions – ongoing refinement based on your truck and driving
No shop visit required.

If you’re going to a local installer offering OTT, that’s their product. If you want a CAMTuning calibration, it’s done directly through me, remotely.

That’s a loaded question, and I’m not going to turn it into a brand war.

OTT has their approach and they’ve built a following.

What I can speak to is my process. I’ve been working in the COBB ecosystem for about 15 years across multiple platforms. That’s what my workflow is built around — Accessport-based flashing, logging, reviewing data, and refining from there.

Every truck I tune gets log-reviewed by me personally. If someone goes the custom route, we dial it in based on their setup and how they actually use the truck.

So “better” really comes down to what kind of process you prefer and who you want behind the calibration.

If you tell me what you’re trying to improve, I’ll give you a straight answer on whether I’m a good fit.

If you get an Accessport, you can load a file by OTT, myself, or any other Cobb Protuner whenever you want and see what suits you best.

I hope my review helps others make a decision if they plan to tune their truck but are on the fence about taking the leap. CAMtuning has answered every question I had concerns with to the best of his ability. This isnt my first rodeo when it comes to having my trucks tuned. I've had several other tunes on my previous trucks as well. They've worked well in the past, but for my 2024 tacoma limited iforcemax, I felt like CAMtuning helped me achieve what I want with my truck and exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps you and others who are thinking of going the COBB accessport route with CAMTuning.

I have a question, on first post OP mentioned shift point improvements. CAM have you looked at keeping shift points higher to address transmissions overheating in 4hi. Im thinking the ratios are two high evidenced by tranny temps dropping when peeps go to 4 low.

Does, or can your tunes address the tranny temps in 4hi??

I haven’t done any dedicated development specifically around 4Hi temp issues. Most of my trans work has focused on overall drivability, shift quality, and torque management.

That said, what you’re describing makes mechanical sense. 4Lo changes the effective ratio, which moves the transmission into a different operating window. If temps drop there, that tells us it may be lugging or spending too much time in an inefficient gear in 4Hi.

There are separate shift schedules for different ranges, so yes — it’s possible to have it hold a lower gear longer in 4Hi if that proves to be beneficial.

If you’re actually seeing consistent 4Hi temp issues and are willing to gather some clean logs, I’d be interested in digging into it. That’s how real improvements get made — data first, then changes.

Thanks CAM, my initial instincts were to swap in some 4.3 gear sets but I cant find a set for 4th gen yet so that moves a CAM tune to the top of the list for mods. I suppose staying in S mode would provide same effects, but would/will be interesting to tweak with your tunes. R.

My truck isn’t a race car but sometimes I drive like it. The thing I immediately hate is that if I floor it to merge on the highway, sometimes the throttle lags and that pisses me off. I’d like to change that. OTT was the first I’ve heard of and maybe the most popular? I’d be interested in trying both. I’ll hit you up @CAMTuning
